ThinkPad and MacBook had a baby?

As long as build quality stays the same I really like the design updates. I'd take this over an IdeaPad.

As I said, as long as its built like a Think, its a definite improvement and updates the look. With the price point coming down also it will attract a lot of people who want the reliability and toughness that the Think is known for, but also care about how their computer looks. I'm not saying it will convert the diehard Think lovers, but it will attract more buyers who would get a Think because of reputation and performance, but instead opt for an Idea because of price and/or aesthetics.

I say drop a bunch if not all of the Idea line and just expand the Edge into its own sub-brand of Think to replace it.

You'd almost be better off getting one of the newer netbooks with an Nvidia Ion (if you want something in the $500 price range). I just picked up an Asus 1201n with a dual core atom, nvidia Ion, 2GBs of ram, 250GB HDD, 12" 1366 by 768 led display, and 6 cell battery for $499. Beats out the thinkpad edge on 3dmark 06 and all the other graphical benchmarks considering the edge has an integrated GMA 4500M, compared to the Ion (nvidia 9400m), and now with flash 10.1 beta most of the load moves over to the GPU. Not to mention I installed some older games (Hl2/portal/tf2) on my asus and i was able to run them almost maxed out (no AA) at native resolution. You won't be able to do that on any of the cheaper CULV laptops in the $500-700 range.

I'm pretty sure that most ThinkPad users aren't concerned with running games on them. These are still marketed for business users, they're just trying to appeal more to small business.

What sucks is when you opt for the Intel chip, the price goes up considerably compared to the AMD chip.

i, too, have a x61t.. and it hasn't given me any trouble... but the horror stories out there are ridiculous and kiljadn is very correct. they aren't what they used to be

another x61t lover here. This thing has been through hell and still works like the day it was first turned on.

All my personal experiences with Lenovo still point to them making pretty damn rugged business laptops.

i dropped mine and busted the clip out of it but i can hardly blame that on lenovo. (the return box is in the closet, i havent been able to get rid of it for 4 days yet though)

also the power brick broke and i needed my laptop for a presentation at work. i called them on a thursday at 4:00 pm to let them know about my presentation on sat and on friday a new power adapter was waiting for me when i got home.

If my thinkpad didnt run windows with a shitty (huge blown up) IT build, I think I would like it alot more.

Yes, its a beast, but since its constantly having performance issues, I will opt for a macbook pro with my next refresh, in a few years

I never understood the hype behind IBM laptops. All the thinkpads i've ever come in contact with were always the biggest pieces of shit. This opinion dates back to high school.
