ESPN NFL Power Ranking
Quote : | "Dallas Cowboys
Final Power Ranking: 4 " |
What a joke after barely limping in as the NFC East champion last Sunday and playing like a team that did not give a shit about going to the playoffs the first half of the season. Perhaps I can give them 6 at most 5. In no way though do I consider them better than the #5 ranked Saints. Sure they lost against the panthers last week but they really have not had anything to play for having secured the home field advantage a couple weeks back.
We all know though that ESPN loves to jack off the Cowboys as is always seen in their subjective journalism during ESPN monday night football.

Yeah I can't believe they would put a team that beat the Saints ahead of them.
The team that finished with 2 shutouts and lowest points allowed in the NFC should be way lower.1/6/2010 9:00:51 PM |

The NFC is wide open. A few weeks ago it was a no-brainer to say #1 Saints, #2 Vikings, as far as NFC teams go...add in the last few weeks and who knows what the fuck is going on...the Packers might be the hottest team in the conference right now 1/6/2010 9:02:46 PM |

Bullshit imho. Sure they have one more win at 9-7 then the no 18 panthers 8-8, but the Steelers also lost to the most garbage teams in the NFL. They deserve to be middle of the pack 15 at best. Being the biggest bandwagon team in america and the super bowl champs from last year is not "bonus" points for a power ranking in my opinion.

^They lost to garbage teams but also beat really good teams. The Panthers had two big wins at the end of the season against a Saints team playing 2nd stringers and a Giants team that was getting waxed left and right at the end of the year.
Everyone thought the Eagles were the hottest team in the NFC at the end of the year (not the Saints, who should have lost to a shitty Redskins team and lost to a HORRIBLE Tampa Bay team), and the Cowboys blanked them...fucking shut them out. I don't like the Cowboys...but that was one of the more impressive wins of the year. They also shut out the Redskins and beat the Saints....at New Orleans. Now why again would you put the Saints ahead of the Cowboys??
I don't really see too much wrong with those rankings.

I've got Carolina's impressive wins being Arizona and Minnesota...maybe Atlanta. Arizona is also one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL...looking like world beaters one week and bottom feeders the next. But whatever, let's give it to Carolina anyways.
Pittsburgh beat San Diego, Minnesota, Green Bay, and Baltimore...their wins that could compare to Carolina's "Atlanta win" would include Denver and Tennessee. And they had a one game better record than Carolina. So even though they lost to some shitty teams...I think their bigger wins and better overall record are more than enough to justify the higher ranking than Carolina. 1/7/2010 12:12:02 AM |

I could care less about whose ranked higher amongst Pitt and Carolina, two teams missing the playoffs, but the Panthers obviously finished stronger...wins over the top 2 teams in the conference in the last 3 weeks, and the worst home loss the Giants have ever seen, to go in the record books for the last game in that stadium...what did the Steelers do in the last 3 weeks? 1/7/2010 12:21:26 AM |

^^For someone who says they don't care, you sure tried to make an argument.
Last game in that stadium was actually the Jets playing the next week. The Giants played absolutely horrible against the Panthers and looked exactly the same getting dismantled by the Vikings the next week. Then the Panthers beat a bunch of 2nd stringers then next week in New Orleans.
Pittsburgh beat Baltimore, Green Bay, and Miami. Baltimore and Green Bay are playoff teams, Green Bay is one of the hotter teams going into the playoffs and the Baltimore was playing strong at the end of the season as well. Miami was a borderline playoff team too.
I would argue that they both ended the season equally strong. 1/7/2010 8:41:11 AM |

Considering they did not clinch the division until WEEK 17 after beating the Eagles, I would consider this "limping in." The cowboys were merely trying to stay alive and play catch-up weeks 15 and 16. Just because these teams are going to the playoffs and were not the Lions/Bucs does not earn Dallas "bonus" points in my book. So yes the cowboys LIMPED into teh NFC east spot.

I just hate how its painfully obvious that sports announcers are so biased and subjective when it comes to certain teams. Like during the MNF panthers v cowboys the ESPN announcers had all but condemned carolina even when they still have most of the 3rd quater to play and were only down a touchdown plus 3.

The Steelers won their last 3 games, but by a total of 10 points combined...Panthers won their last 3 by a total of 64 points...and Minnesota was still playing for homefield advantage when we played them...but honestly I don't care about the rankings, I just think the Panthers arguably finished the season as the hottest team in the NFL
The key thing about my previous post is that "two teams missing the playoffs"
In other words, who cares what they're ranked, they're both sitting on the couch watching other teams play

You gotta be kidding me. Chargers, Steelers, Packers, and Cowboys all finished hotter than the Panthers.
Chargers: 11 in a row...nuff said. Even won with their 2nd stringers.
Packers: Won 7 of 8. Only loss being a last 2nd TD against the Steelers. They beat the Cowboys and the Ravens (not going to count last game against Cardinals since their 2nd string played most of the game).
Cowboys: Won 3 in a row and 5 of last 7. Beat the Saints when they were playing their hardest to stay undefeated. Blanked the Redskins and the Eagles...the Eagles game being the most impressive because a lot of analysts were saying Philly was playing the best ball in the NFC...and the Cowboys just bitch slapped them.
Steelers: Won three in a row. Only team to beat Green Bay in the last half of the season and beat a Ravens team that was scrambling for the playoffs. Even the Dolphins were a close playoff team. If anything, they were as hot as the Panthers. The three teams mentioned above were all hotter than the Panthers.
Panthers: 4-3 in their last 7 games. Minnesota and New York being their big wins. You can't count a team playing their 2nd stringers...sorry. Buffalo didn't have one of their biggest wins of the year by beating Indy in the finale.
And the Saints were playing for seeding?? Drew Brees didn't play a snap. Get out of here with that shit. Quit being a homer.1/7/2010 6:58:11 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148442 Posts user info edit post |
who the fuck said anything about the Saints playing for seeding? Sorry I didn't clarify super obvious stuff for you earlier, like how it was the GIANTS' last game at the Meadowlands, or how the Panthers arguably played the LAST 3 GAMES as well as anyone
i dont give a shit about some stupid power rankings comparing 2 teams that missed the playoffs, but here you are trying to downplay winning the last 3 games by a total of 64 points
Quote : | "You can't count a team playing their 2nd stringers...sorry." |
yeah you're right...Panthers actually finished 7-8 since you can't count wins against teams who play their 2nd stringers...are you a huge Steelers fan or something? or are you just really pissed off right now at something completely unrelated?

Eh...I saw Minnesota and thought "New Orleans." My bad on that one.
I don't know why you're arguing Minnesota when nobody said anything bad about that win. I say the Minnesota win for Carolina and New Orleans win for the Cowboys cancel each other out (with maybe the Cowboys win being a bit bigger...but that's nitpicking).
The Giants got shellacked the next game just as bad as Carolina beat them. And I'm not saying a Win isn't a Win....but if that's the case, then the Jets are just as hot as the Panthers....they won 5 of 6 (beating the Panthers) and beat powerhouses Indy and Cincy in the final two games (you know...since a Win is a Win and all). And I'm not a Steelers fan in the least bit, I'm just not a Panthers homer. 1/7/2010 7:09:43 PM |
TreeTwista10 minisoldr 148442 Posts user info edit post |
I'm not trying to be a Panthers homer, I'm just pointing out that we beat Minnesota handily when they still had something to play for (after NO lost to Dallas), we absolutely raped the Giants in their building, and yeah we beat New Orleans, but as you said, its not like they were at full strength...maybe we just played SO MUCH BETTER with Matt Moore that I'm overly optimistic, but I think we finished the season as good as any other team...unfortunately for us, and Steelers fans, it was too little too late 1/7/2010 7:13:26 PM |

Philly beats Dallas this weekend.
Its hard enough to beat a team twice in the same season. Let alone 3 times.
And even tougher 2 weeks in a row. 1/8/2010 8:52:24 AM |

^ That's the worst rationale ever.
"They beat them last week so there's no way they can do it this week"
If anything , Dallas has a huge psychological edge that should spill over into this game.
Keep in mind that this was not like the Ari/GB game. These two teams had everything to play for...hell, Philly was playing for a bye. The got SHUT OUT. No Points. It's not like all of the sudden, they are going to go to the really, really good plays instead of the really good ones.
I think Philly is toast and once again, for the 48327429847 time....their lack of a true running game will be their downfall. 1/8/2010 8:57:58 AM |

The started 13-0...that's why they're up that high. The Power Rankings isn't a "what was your record in the last 3 games rankings"....it's a rankings for who are the best teams right now. You might could argue that they Saints could be anywhere from 4th to maybe 8th...but they still won 13 games, and using their 1st stringers and actually caring about the outcome of a game, had one bad loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs.
You should stay out of Sports Talk.

^^ I've got Philly in that one due to Andy Reid.
He's one of the best in the NFL in scheming how to get his playmakers the ball. The Cowboy D did a real good job of containing Jackson those first two games, but he is still a beast and can explode at any moment. Kinda like a young Smitty.
