Well, in no time it'll be time for our first race. We're trying to spread the word for people to come join us.

This is what you guys have seen on tv. but at a smaller scale. its fun, its fast and it gets dirty. come out and try rallying. no ken block here, but with some practice you can be on your way to WRC with your own team.

find out more at Tarheel Sports Car Club -- Rally - RallyCross
http://www.thscc.com/rally
thats the official site where you can register and what not.
check out the calendar and sign up right away

practice your drifting skills without buying a new set of tires every 20 minutes

we've got a blog up and running about last seasons races, with some pictures.
http://www.9one9racing.com Racing feel free to check it out and read about the progress and check out some pictures. you can find tons more pictures from the THSCC website as well. Instead of making new threads each race, Ill just update this one with newer information on the dates/times.

As of now, we want to have 10 races this year. which is big, and we can make it happen with the help of you guys who keep saying you'll show up, but no one does. so cmon out, give it a try, you'll get hooked. its cheap dirty fun

so BRING YOUR JUNK

if you didnt drive it like you wanted to break it, no

first race ever, Kourosh, Adam and I ran the civic hatch

that was 18 runs on a stock civic, with only 1 debeaded tire

and we fixed that at the race

just make sure you air up at the race to ~45 psi and drive like you got some sense

walk the course, note where the bad (rutted) parts are and drive straight across those places, (don't turn the wheel) or avoid them as much as possible

slow is fast

fast is more than likely out of control in a relatively stock car

you should be fine, and have a lot of fun in the process

^^Okay I'm seriously consider it. No way its worse than the off road trail I took it on last March (tire sidewalls still show some mud from it, lol). That and I've drag raced, tracked, and autoxed this car RallyX seems like the final frontier for it

My ground clearance is a little iffy though. However, I have my shocks on the lowest of 3 spring perches. Moving them to the highest perch will probably give me about another inch.

With the appropriate tires, this would be a blast in the evo! Too bad they don't have a snow rallyx because I already have tires for that

I've been aware of this for a while but I really have to ask. You have an AWD car and live in NC...why in the world do you have snow tires?

"why in the world do you have snow tires?"

I've had them since the year I owned an STi back in 2005. I drove up to PA one winter to meet my dad at his office then he and I were going to drive to NYC for my doctors appointment. Well when we woke up in his hotel the next morning in PA my STI was completely buried in snow. I was running summer performance tires which get no snow traction at all. So after about an hour of digging out the snow and having the guy that was plowing come help plow around my car I managed to barely drive it a couple miles down the road to the local firestone. They installed a brand new set of Blizzaks that some M3 owner had ordered but they never called to tell him they arrived so they gave them to me instead.

There was no way I was going to drive from PA to NYC and back to NC (the same day) in over a foot of snow and ice on the roads. The road conditions were terrible...but with the snow tires its like driving on dry tarmac.

Also AWD doesn't mean shit if you don't have at least all-seasons in slick conditions (more than just rain obviously). Its really not going to help you when all 4 wheels can't get traction. People assume AWD/4WD means you're invincible in slick conditions.

I would love to...RallyX sounds like so much fun...I'll have to think about it.

y0 G's whats up.

well, this year they made me the co-VP of the rallyX division. that means i gotta actually try to recruit folks to come out. we really need more people to come out and have some fun if we want to continue the rallyX program for another few years.

the hardest part is trying to convince people that its really not that bad of an experience. everything is on dirt and it really depends on how hard/soft you drive and how you treat your car.

as far as costs go, somewhere between $25-30 is what we're charging. and we're also trying to add some fun runs at the end of the race for a few dollars a run. I encourage all of you who keep reading about Ray and I posting these races up to come out and check it out. its once a month on the weekend. ray has pretty much covered it all. spread the word even if you cant make it. im sure you have a friend that has a car that would like to be driven likes to get dirty.

if you've got any Q's, Ray and I can answer.

btw the blog is wordpress haha, http://9one9.wordpress.com

goto the THSCC website and sign up to become a member and you can participate in more than just the races, you can help chair some events, that means race for free on a course that you have designed (most likely with another person or two). either way. ive got to convince you folks that RallyX isnt as bad as it seems. well, its bad-ass, but its not gonna break your car or bank.

later

oh and mark bring the evoo, snow tires are gonna rock out there.

^ it's Kourosh's blog, but he'll probably see this

you should come on out, at least to see what it's about

Quote :

^it's like $30

check out http://www.thscc.com/rally and look at the calendar

it may be updated by now for this year, we are supposed to have 10 events this season

as opposed to 6 last yr, so i'm pretty stoked

if you join THSCC, they usually discount entry fees and stuff, plus they have pretty decent autoX events, from what i hear

i plan on going to an autoX or 2 this year too, not on snow tires though

pasted from tarheels member forums. sounds like the autox schedule is holding everything up so this is still tentative.

"There are possibly a few open dates that could be renegotiated after the Autocross schedule is completed so if there are conflicts that would prevent you from participating please let us know. We really need everyone's participation this year to insure a 2011 season.

To make this a full season, we have scheduled 9 points events and one non-points event at the end of the year that could become a points event in the event that we have cancellations.
Your comments and assistance are always welcome. If you wish to chair an event please send an email to the Rally-X VPs (email contact on the THSCC Contacts Page).
Calendar:
Feb. 13/14
Mar. 20/21
Apr. 10/11
May 8
Jun. 5/6
Jul. 10/11
Aug. 7/8
Sept. 4/5
Oct. 2/3
Nov. 6/7 - non-points or make up points

There is the possibility of a drivers school on one weekend that we are considering in Mar. or Apr. "

Oh I'm well aware that AWD doesn't help you turn or stop when the road's super slick. I'm sure we've all seen an SUV fly by in inclement weather only to see them fly off into a ditch further up the road. But given how we never get anything here it seemed reasonable to question it. Being stuck pretty good up North is a good reason.

Ray, what kind of tire wear do you get running snow tires in RallyX's? Snow tires usually have a fairly soft compound to deal with the low temp and for gripping the ice better. I'd imagine they're wear out with a quickness (at least compared to an all season tire). And Blizzak's aren't cheap, that's for sure

^^I've had my snow tires since 2005 and I've used them almost every winter since because of driving up to the mountains for skiing. They're still holding up pretty well. Although I think the next time I am going to buy them with wheels so i can just put them on before a ski trip and not for a whole season...they'll last a lot longer that way. Considering they cost $1000 and almost 5 years later I'm still using them I'd say they are a good value.

yah, they aren't cheap

just get some used wheels that'll fit your tires, just make sure they'll clear your brakes, offset-wise

because a good set of gravel wheels are upwards of $250-600 per wheel

I've seen the stock BBS wheels on the MR go for as little as $900 on EvoM from owners that immediately buy after market ghetto/downgraded shit and just want to get rid of their already awesome wheels. I think i might just pick up a set of those then.

True. I used to take my IX to the mountains to go skiing when I lived in WA. With the Advans and Azenis, it got remarkably poor traction for an AWD car with limited slips in all 3 differentials. I mean, it always easily made it up the mountain, and the only time I ever got stuck was when I once accidentally drove it into some deeper snow that wasn't packed as well...but it didn't do nearly as well as I thought it would have.

well the first race is officially on Feb. 14th (Vday), but its usually done by the afternoon. so plenty of time to go home and waste spend $$ on your loved one.

the schedule and the pre-registration will be up shortly. we're trying to make it $5 off if you pre-pay/pre-register for an event.

we need at least 25 people signed up (payed or unpayed) for an event to happen.
SO MAKE IT HAPPEN.

btw, i dont have any spare 4X100's sorry y0

http://www.thscc.com/rallycross for more info (in a few days hopefully)

Quinn, I have an extra set of wheels/tires but they're Azenis...I can't imagine what would do any good on dirt lol.

Question: If it snows around then is the rally-x still on? I can only imagine how badass that would be.
