Substitute Parmesan, Mozzarella or and / or pepper jack for the velveeta. add some diced jalapenos and serannos, maybe a red bell pepper.

The Velveeta isn't even necessary, and actually makes it impossible to reheat properly.

Or you could just go to PR and have them make it for you.

there should be no reason to reheat this stuff. it goes quick.

^^ untrue. when we made it, we made it a day beforehand along with everything else we were serving for this party, just to make it easier. it tasted fine reheated. we put it in one of those mini crock pots on low, and it tasted awesome, even being reheated. but yeah, that stuff went QUICK! if you make it on the spot to be eaten on the spot, there will be no leftovers.

ughhh im so hungry for this now.

i've never done it with velveeta either...just the sausage, rotel & cream cheese. it works just fine, and is very tasty.

you'd have to add quite a bit of seasonings...that's why you use breakfast sausage or Italian sausage/bratwurst with the casings removed

^^^this is not a "nacho dip" recipe... this is a thread is a tribute to the ultimate in party food perfection.

I used the kind of sausage in the block of paper... not Neese's but the other brand that's pretty much the same. It was "spicy" as opposed to "mild"

and NO do NOT use hamburger meat. that shit would be vile.

^^BLASPHEMY!

I honestly think 50% of why I like it (there or homemade) is the Fritos.

need to throw some chilis in there

and some sharp cheddar... then you have a good dip (oh, and it should be spicy sausage too)

it is a really easy thing to make, and like it was mentioned earlier, is a great for parties

or as I mentioned earlier, remove the casings from a package of brats and brown that meat up

i usually go this route, but breakfast sausage is good too

for the best result use the type of sausage in the block. it cooks up better and has a better texture.

and no, you do not need to add anything to this. while i'd normally agree that peppers and whatnot are good, this simply does not need them, and they could throw off the balance of the perfection that this has achieved.

There's a pretty easy way to make this, the instructions for which I just followed.

Go to the store. Buy sausage, salsa, velveeta, and cream cheese in the amount of your choosing. Heat the velveeta and cream cheese in a crock pot after cutting it into smaller cubes/pieces. While the cheese is melting, cook the sausage in little balls in a pan, following the directions on the package. Once the sausage is browned, place it on a plate with paper towels on it and let the grease get sucked out of the sausage somewhat. Break the sausage up into little bits with a fork or a knife or something. Once the cheese has started to melt fairly decently, throw in the sausage bits and the salsa. Stir that motherfucker up. Eat it.

I just made 5,570 calories worth of this here dip, shooting from the hip on quantity, etc. There are just over two quarts of this shit sitting in my crock pot. I am going to kill everybody at the party with this stuff, because it is so vile and addictive that we are going to eat it ALL in one sitting. I predict much vomiting from fat poisoning, which is good cause I could use a day off work tomorrow.

[Edited on February 7, 2010 at 1:53 PM. Reason : "Hot" carolina pride sausage, medium salsa (large jar), regular cream cheese, lg box velveeta.]
