I have all his books and enjoy the stories, but unless I'm hearing him read to an audience, the humor usually flies right by me.

Amy >>>>>> David

David's still good, though.

i read one of his books, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim. it was the biggest POS i've ever read next to Atlas Shrugged.

whiny and inconsequential.

his radio bits are decent, but why are his books so bad?

Saw him talk several months ago.

Stood in line and got him to sign a first edition hardback of Barrel Fever/Other Stories.

I'M GONNA BE RICH, BITCH!

Seriously though, dude is insightful and hilarious.

I sort of feel this way about his radio bits too. he's entertaining, but I can only take him in small doses.

I've never read anything from him that I'd describe as "whiny".

Humorist = Someone not funny enough to be a comedian or consequential enough to be an author.

[Edited on February 7, 2010 at 10:30 PM. Reason : Isn't he from NC and hates it?]

Mark Twain has an issue with your definition, sir.

i don't think he hates NC. he comes back enough.

he just chose to live somewhere else as an adult.

he pokes fun at nc as someone whose family were outsiders when his dad was transferred to to raleigh when he was little.

^ yeah that's the impression I get too. In fact, I think he actually has a certain fondness for NC that isn't entirely obvious on the surface.

However, I too, can only read his material in small doses. He's sorta like a poor man's seinfeld, minus the TV show.
