3 was pretty good, but after playing the beta for most of the last 5 hours... 4's multiplayer is FUN

This underground tiberium management thing is not really clicking with me story-wise or game-play wise. Not liking the mission-style focus either.

I loved 3, probably my favorite of the series. Same basic premise as the original: Nod VS Gdi, build a base send out an army, collect tiberium.

Any RTS that tries to make a change from base building gameplay is piss poor in my book

Give me Age of Empires any day of the week

I hate it just on the principle of no base building. And I have owned every game in the C&C universe. I will probably get this on a sale, but I hate the though of this.

well the genre has to evolve or it will die (although maybe it will just die), although if they seriously jacked up the AI level (beyond just the swarming mindless attacks), they could probably keep the base building but I haven't seen anything close yet, maybe it's coming however

So I tried it out, and I'll have to admit I had no idea what the hell was going on the entire time.

after a few games you start to get the hang of it.

you can either go for a lucky draw and go all one kind of unit (anti-air, anti-medium, anti-heavy, etc.) or get some kind of balance. and hope for something. If you're GDI, Nod players seem to like to use light so something that's anti-light (uses a gun)

there a few slightly OP things right now, to tip you off there's healer spam and basically just defense.

Yeah I couldn't find any GDI matches in the 3 minutes searching, so I found a 5 vs 5 match as NOD.

And when I say I had no idea what was going on, I'm not exagerating. I didn't understand the resources (or how you get them), the upgrades, the unit tree, or even the objectives. All I knew how to do was build the units I started out with and shoot people with them.

Maybe I should have looked for some instructions or something, but I expected it to be at least something like every other C&C game. Crazy I know.

if i see this game doesn't end up as a get hundreds of X unit to win as quick as possible i might be interested. in my mind the RTS genre is on the rocks, not saying nothing can save it but it would need a miracle of a game or some big innovation.

Unit cap limits the spamming, it's all about the counter system and teamwork.

RTS community might actually be growing. Halo Wars was a BIG success for the future of console RTS and SC II and CNC4 looks like it'll be good.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks this, I love the genre, starcraft was one of my favorite games of all time but it almost seems like everything that can be done has been done

who knows, maybe I'm just thinking of the traditional types of rts that are dying and the genre is still moving in a new direction

I wish someone would make another Homeworld-style RTS. There have not been any exceptional space-based RTS since that series.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone has played Sudden Strike, but I absolutely loved that game. It was one of the more realistic RTS I've ever played. I wish someone would come out with a "simulated" RTS game using either historical or modern warefare units and technologies...

I can't remember which review said this, but it pretty well summed it up:
"This is a multiplayer game. The developers had no heart or soul for the singleplayer game and it looks more like an afterthought".

I wish they had spun off a new game series in the C&C universe to try out this new gameplay style and gave C&C4 a proper sendoff. People who are diehard fans of the series will play it regardless, but, be prepared to be disappointed by both plot and gameplay.

most people I talked to during the beta agreed with me on this POV: the game is damn fun, but not what we expected for CNC4. It should have been an option in addition to the standard gameplay with resource gathering (kinda like that one mode with a wall in the middle?)
