the 29 year old woman who fought 5 different types of cancer and held like 6 peoples worth of jobs and never complained

glad to see she got a huge raise and promotion and was able to keep her house

this shows only the tip of the iceburg of incompetence in corperate america. that guy knew nothing about how the company worked yet was in charge of it? ceo should be required to come from within and people who work the low jobs working their way up. People that actually have an idea what real work is. He couldn't even do any of the jobs yet alone actually understand them.

^^ Depends on the business. Some work well that way, some do not. I guess it might turn upon what the CEO does all day. If they spend their day managing the internal business and workforce, then yes, promotion inside the ranks is best. However, if they spend their day negotiating with corporate partners or lobbying Washington for corporate welfare, then having a CEO that is popular in those circles is of primary importance.

I loved the show except for how he handled getting that girl a raise. He never should have brought up her home problems to the manager first. Everyone in business should know that home=home and work=work. He should have made the point about her doing 6 jobs and left it at that.

You can hire specialized people for these things that advise the ceo. Just as you have accountants and PR people.

I personally thought the show was horrible, mainly because there's nothing "undercover" about the boss at all. The whole thing seems like a publicity stunt to help with the PR of a select few companies that really need it. Considering that Hooters is potentially for sale right now, now would be a good time for some positive exposure.

The only redeeming quality of the show was watching a suit-and-tie businessman try to work a day in the life of a blue collar worker. Unfortunately, he only has to do it for a week and doesn't have to live off of blue-collar wages.

i think the WM episode was filmed nearly a year ago because the scene where they were cleaning out the portta potties is at the houston livestock & rodeo which is only in march. so i don't think hooters was initially "doing it for the pr"

also, living in houston where WM is headquartered, i know some people who have met or know larry odonnell personally and they all say he's a super nice guy with a really big heart so i don't think his personality was over produced

If I'm looking for a CEO for a waste management company, I would prefer someone who knew business over garbage collecting.
