I will not deny that a women's coach might have to make significant adjustments to coach a mens team.


there are just some differences in strategy, athleticism and especially physicallness (sp?) that dont carry over between the womens and mens games

my dad went to UT. As a result I got generous helpings of Pat growing up (back when they were even more dominate.) Even back then my dad would say: "Damn Pat can coach, but lord, that is an ugly woman."

Id have to say recruiting and just in general identifying with players would be difficult. When recruits talk about Sid they usually mention something like him being like a father figure, someone they can identify with, etc.

^^I don't think that statement really applies much to this thread to be honest. That seems more like a response you would see in a thread after a lady has already coached a men's team and is doing well and someone is asking for people's opinion on it at that point.

The reason I say it doesn't apply is that I think 99% of people in here would agree that if a coach wins, who cares what race or gender or whatever they are. No one is arguing that point. What people ARE arguing is will we see it? Can they be competitive? What advantages or disadvantages would they have? etc.

I really don't have a vested interest in the thread though

I don't think the XOs part would be a problem -- if the person is a good coach, they can adjust strategy. I think the recruiting would be a problem. They are going to have to start out real small time to prove that good men will want to play for her. The best chance is to have some NBA experience and connections, cause that's what top recruits care about.

Though, even in the real world, there are very few women leaders who males would respect.

i think someone from an nba background like sheryl miller would be a good coach but not a college womens coach switching to mensbecause its more about recruiting than coaching.

if they were at a program that recruits itself then it would work. patt summit or geno could have unc kentucky ucla or kansas dominating every year. no doubt in my mind.
