Anyone else interested in checking this out? It's supposed to be heavy on the drama and lighter on the violence. Biggest problem seems to be a few bugs from what I've read, but the reviews have been great. Set to be released this coming Tuesday, the 23rd.

Quote :
"A city on the US east coast is being terrorized by the “Origami Killer,” whose victims are all discovered drowned, four days after they go missing. Seemingly the only clues: an origami figure and an orchid, discovered on each of their bodies.

The public is gripped by fear and paranoia. The authorities seem no closer to a credible suspect. And now another potential victim has disappeared – Shaun Mars.

As the clock ticks amidst suspicion and anxiety, four very different people are drawn into the investigation – each following their own leads in a desperate search for Shaun.

Each of them knows what the cost will be if they don’t reach him in time – and they will soon be forced to ask themselves just how far they are prepared to go…"

I liked the demo, but I am probably going to wait for this one and put my money on GOW3.

I watched this game on a live stream last night for over an hour... probably the best game this generation. Seriously, its INCREDIBLE.

I thought the demo was very intriguing.

I think the next iteration has the potential for greatness, but this is still going to be good.

Do you actually use items from an inventory to solve puzzles in this game? I watched one of the demos, and it just looked like an interactive movie.

^^ an interactive movie is the best description, but there are multiple ways things can play out apparently.

Here's a good review written by EW that describes the game in better detail:

Quote :
"Heavy Rain is a chilling interactive thriller about a serial killer, so naturally there should be a scene where the player must…change a poopy diaper. And take a shower. And mull existential crises while shooting hoops. Heavy Rain is heavy stuff, and it comes pretty close to being a masterpiece.

You start as Ethan Mars, married father of two boys. The game doesn't just tell you this — it makes you feel it, requiring you to flirt with your wife and play with your kids. Then, cruelly, these people are taken away. One son is killed by a car. In the heartbreaking aftermath, there is a divorce. And when the other boy is abducted by the Origami Killer, you must submit to near-suicidal challenges to get him back, like crawling through jagged glass. You play three other characters, too, and their crisscrossing stories form a complex weave. Each has secrets; all are complex and compelling.

Every scene in this dark neo-noir finds unique ways to get you to experience the characters' angst and rush of thoughts. Decisions must be made quickly, and most affect the direction and tenor of the story. Heavy Rain gets under your skin and into your head, rewiring your videogame mind and fingers for emotional choices, not action.

The game is occasionally buggy; it's ironic — and irritating — that an experience so narratively and emotionally sophisticated should have commonplace flaws like background characters that wander aimlessly into you and through you. But overall, the special virtues of Heavy Rain are enough to captivate your mind, and better, your heart. A-"

Just an FYI for those who don't already know: if you pre-order the game from someone like Amazon, you'll get a code to download the first chapter of the DLC's being made for this game called "The Taxidermist." Evidentally they are releasing a series of DLC's that are prequels that go toward explaining each character's past.

Demo made me want to get it.

I.E. my suitemate with a PS3 want to get it.

Hilarious thing is that one of my suitemates, NOT the guy with the PS3, bought it to play on the other guy's PS3--GRANTED, they both want to play it.

I'm very likely going to go get this game tomorrow. Concept is innovative, execution seems to be very competent (based on the demo and reviews), and it seems like a pretty smart game all the way around. My only worry is that, as with any single player only game, the replayability will be a little more limited, but that's what Gamestop in a month or two is for.

Wow...this game is awesome. Definitely picking this up tomorrow and taking full advantage of the '50% trade bonus for every game' sale at GameStop.

at first I was like 'this is dumb' with the opening scene, walking down the alley. But then as soon as I got to the first fight scene I can see why they chose this type of control setup...wow I've never played a game where you get that involved in a fight and feel like you're the one getting beat up. Of course since I don't play the PS3 often enough I'm always forgetting the layout (triangle, Square, X, O) which made the fight even more intense haha.

i watched the stream last night for about an hour and while it seemed really cool i'm just not sure if i can justify paying full price for this. Maybe the player was in a slow spot of the game but it seemed like there was a lot of wait time between doing anything. Now i'll be the first to admit that i love games with a lot of cutscenes and big movie feel (Uncharted for example) so i'm still drawn to this game...just not at $60 bucks

It's really fun so far. It's hard to tell when you should replay a scene again for a different outcome.

Watch my suitemate play it through (8-9 hours) then we screwed around with scenes and saw other options, fucking huge turns in the game.

God it was good. The later half of the game is really intense, and in the last two hours it was "Wow, it's like 4AM, but I have to watch the rest of the movie."

I actually got all boned up during the the shower scene. I think more games should have nudity; it obviously isn't hurting this games commercial appeal.

so far i'm really enjoying it. i'm not replaying any of the scenes my first time through. i want to see where going with my instincts takes me. i think the story is good and the characters all possess their own uniqueness.

i like how a seemingly innocent, insignificant choice you make comes up later on and may change the way a future scene plays out. although the ultimate outcome is probably roughly the same, there are still times the game has a "Choose Your Own Adventure" feel to it.

Im going to go back through and try a couple of things different.

my former comment may not be correct. this is a game where just about all unearned trophies have ??? in their place. but two in particular, and i don't think these are spoilers since you can see them when you first boot the game up, say "complete the game with all four characters alive" and "see all endings." so maybe the game can end quite differently, or in many different ways.

also as for renting the game, they are releasing DLC as well. So you may get more life out of the game than just replaying the main story over again. i know i got a lot more use out of Fallout 3 with the DLC.
