Okay, so this is a big new thing from Google. Here's a link to the site:

https://www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/

Quote :
"Google is planning to launch an experiment that we hope will make Internet access better and faster for everyone. We plan to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Our networks will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today, over 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. We'll offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.

From now until March 26th, we're asking interested municipalities to provide us with information about their communities through a Request for information (RFI), which we'll use to determine where to build our network."

I'm currently rallying people to both nominate Raleigh for the project, as well as for contacting Mayor Meeker and Raleigh Officials to attempt to get their involvement in this, which is what Google really wants.

(For those of you who don't know or don't want to look, Meeker's phone is 919-890-4168).

So yea, let's get this nominating thing going, I want to see this happen in Raleigh! After Forbes named us the most Wired city, and we're already a pretty big center for tech, it would be nice to see Google coming in.

I think I saw somewhere that Kansas has already renamed a city to Google, Kansas. We're gonna have to bring our A game.

you may be confusing google with apple

Shit, am I allowed to type the word apple or does that expose me to a potential lawsuit?

Lowercase is fine. It's only when you capitalize that their lawyer hotline gets a call.

[Edited on March 4, 2010 at 2:51 PM. Reason : holy crap, that was the wrong spelling]
