how many were out last year for the spring game? I'm sure there's plenty of time for our starters to get injured before the season beings.

i guess brosius will probably redshirt

From what I've read on Pack Pride he may be back for the start of the season. But some say he wont return until possibly midway in. I don't know. But he's definitely a stud, and we need him.

Spring Practice: Tom O'Brien
http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/952660.html

RALEIGH, NC -- Head coach Tom O'Brien spoke to the media following the Pack's first spring practice of 2010.

Tom O'Brien

“It’s the first day – it’s all about fundamentals and getting lined up. Without pads everybody looks pretty good so they have to be better Thursday and then we have spring break and then they come back the following week and we start putting pads on – then I think we can start making judgments.”

“This will really benefit [Glennon] a lot. He’s getting a lot of time to throw; he’s getting a lot of attention coaching-wise, he should get better and better every day. It’s really important to him.”

“[Bible] is gonna come out and do what he can do every day. I think today will be a pretty good indicator to him. He’s still in chemotherapy, he gets back in the office at about 11:30 every day. He’s part of the plan but what we’ve done – it’s my fault that we got caught flat-footed last year – so we’re splitting up more of the things on offense. We anticipate he’s going to be here but there’s gonna be times where he has to go sit down, which I think he did today.”

“I made him get a letter from the doctor saying its okay for him to be out here. I told him I didn’t want his wife suing me if something bad happens. The doctor gave him a letter and I think he agrees that this is good for him. As much as he can do, we’re going to let him do.”

“One thing about being a coordinator or being a head coach is that you understand how difficult it is to be a coordinator or a head coach and I think you are a better assistant because of it. I think [Jon Tenuta] will add a lot of knowledge and experience to that position and to our defense. I think he was excited about being a coach – there is something about having the dot off you too. The bulls eye isn’t on your back all the time so you can just go out and coach.”

“[Tenuta] better be recruiting. He coached at Georgia Tech for all those years – he knows all the high schools his kids went to high school in the greater Atlanta area so I think he knows all those coaches down there.”

“You can tell there is a difference [with Irving back]. I didn’t know what to expect but he looks like he hasn’t missed anything.”

“He’s so instinctual – one of the plays we had trouble with last year he read it perfectly. Didn’t have to say a word to him, he figures it out. That’s of great value.”

Spring Practice: Nate Irving and Mike Glennon Quotes
http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/952662.html

Nate Irving

“I can’t even put it into words – if I said I was happy it would be an understatement.”

“I know I have to knock some of the rust off. Just overall football skills – actually running and getting to the right gap and knowing the plays.”

“I just realized sitting out how much I took the game for granted. Just being able to run around and talk to my guys and build relationships with these guys – I took that for granted. But last year after going through my process I just appreciate it so much more for what it is.”

“It’s a different look [playing inside]. But it’s a challenge I want to embrace.”

Mike Glennon

“The line, I think four out of five guys are guys that came in with me. The backfield, same situation – we are young but we have experience and we have a lot of potential.”

“I have to really take advantage of [the reps]. I’ve been given an opportunity with Russell not being here to get all the snaps with the ones.”

“Just having the guys know that I can be the guy whether or not Russell comes back. Just having them get comfortable with me and me get comfortable with them - the more reps that we can experience.”

“We are not really allowed to work with [Dana Bible] too much but it’s good to see him out here. He’s his normal self and I think he’s one of the best quarterback coaches around.”

Running game = Offensive line. We have adequate backs we just need a line that will open up holes.

my friends on the team say the oline are still struggling to understand the assignments. that is what they said last year and oline was at the bottom of my worried list last season. so hopefully the rushing numbers will be on track by september.

god fucking damn it

that's the same day as the FE Exam

--

Yeah, our OLine has some work to do. That's a ton of TFL and sacks they're letting through, especially considering that's only 4 players.

Looks like Irving is beasting it up already

This really needs to be at the top of the forum.

I hope everyone is planning on coming out to the game. Crazy to me that uncs SG is being televised when last year our SG had about 4x (warning, made up number b/c I can not recall) as many people attend.

not bad #s from Imhoff either, really. Could it be that the O-line is more for pass protection than run blocking to avoid injury during practice?

yeah, but ideally, i don't want to ever see him on the field in a competitive game. between wilson/glennon/brosius or even proctor if he still remembers some plays, i'd hope our scholarship qbs could take care of business.

its a scrimmage

in the spring with a young secondary who didn't get any bowl practices

so yes, things are about the same. how about they finish spring practice, add some of the new kids, and have fall camp and actually play a game before we start freaking out.

at least that's how i feel about it

With our secondary from last season, even practicing for a bowl game would not of helped they were fucking AWFUL!!!!

I know Tenuta doesn't work specifically with the secondary, lets just hope to GOD that our secondary can cover someone on 3rd an short, 3rd an long, hell just a goddamn 3rd down play!!!

I wouldn't put too much stock into how the secondary performs until we see what it can do with the recruits coming in next year. They have some athletic guys recruited for those positions instead of the small, white guys that got burnt so much last year. Not saying we'll be worlds better, but we should be better in a few positions.

I think that we should announce our attendance as 29,501 just to get back at the Heels. Even if we don't actually have that amount it doesn't matter b/c their "visual estimates" are a bunch of bull.

(this was quoted from the UNC Spring game thread)

The FSU game from this season was a good example. Classic shootout. If only we could have gotten a key stop defensively, we walk away with a win.
