Does anyone have any experience with a laser printer with quality sufficient for photo proofing? I'm in the market for a new printer and I'd like to be able to print the occasional photo suitable for framing and display.
All of my experience with color lasers has either been HP or Xerox and neither had high-quality color. 3/12/2010 11:17:40 AM |

^ Considering the cost per page of a good inkjet, I'll just carry my pictures on disk to a photo finisher or one of the online places. 3/12/2010 2:10:39 PM |

that would probably be best...walgreens regularly has $0.10/print deals and even when they don't, $0.19/print isn't enough to break the bank...especially when you consider you can't get ANY consumer printer for less than $vermont that will come anywhere near the quality 3/12/2010 3:11:20 PM |

This grabbed my curiosity. Would welcome comments from anybody else on this subject, as I know little beyond what Google just showed me.
CNet best of has a max of 5760 x 1440 dpi http://reviews.cnet.com/multifunction-devices/epson-stylus-nx515-printer/4507-3181_7-33666049.html?tag=mncolBtm;rnav
Glancing through some of the color lasers, max I could find is 3600 x 1200 (warning, likely ads): http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/24246/review/color_laserjet_5550n.html
However, as has already been mentioned, option A is $150 base cost, option B is $3500 base cost, and the cost per page you'd need to a significant amount of printing for the laser color to gets is value.
Most of the stores these days allow you to upload your photos, have them printed out, then go to the store to pick them up. Agree would likely be your best option if you aren't planning on doing hundreds of printouts. 3/13/2010 6:33:49 AM |

Or unless for some reason you need to print out a bunch of nude/pornographic photos. 3/13/2010 1:11:53 PM |
