As far as AvP I agree completely.

Aliens did it right by vastly expanding on the mythology, including more aliens, introducing more memorable characters and picking up the tempo by making it more of a war movie than a suspense film.

Predator 2 just replaced an entire special forces squad with Danny Glover and changed the setting.

Looks cheesy as hell. lol at the AA-12. I didn't watch with sound, but are they randomly on the Predator homeworld? Kinda weird to be introducing Predator animals. Also, wtf is up with them changing the face of the Predators. The Predators don't look tall enough.

Surprised to see Adrien Brody in this....almost makes it credible with his name alone. I was going to say he's kind of fallen off recently, but "The Brothers Bloom" was awesome. Fishburne is washed up...but he might do well in this movie.

From what I understand the predators hunt either for entertainment or to gain honor by killing worthy opponents, but really how much honor/entertainment can you get by killing someone who can't even see you and has technology so vastly inferior to you? It'd be like if I went to a cow pasture to go hunting cows using an gatling gun or something.

I think they hunt humans because we are resourceful problem solvers with a will to live, making us a more dangerous quarry than usual.

I don't see how it would be fun to take a group of humans and put them on a hunting planet (aka home territory for the Predators) where we have zero advantage. Especially since it looks like a large number of Predators, not to mention the animals native to the planet.

Right. You hunt these specific locations (for those who have never hunted before) because its easier to pay to hunt property where they breed deer in a given area than to randomly luck out and find some property that is public hunting domain (which practically doesn't exist anymore). The only places you can hunt in NC (that I know of) are on private property which usually gets leased out to whoever is willing to pay to hunt it. Finding these places is rather difficult. So unless you have a hookup or some kind of family land, paying to hunt a "deer farm" increases yours odds and is more accessible than the alternatives.

Just came from the midnight showing and I can say that it blew my expectations clean off the map. It succeeded in ways that I would not have imagined, most importantly by introducing many new elements into the Predator lore that make it interesting all over again. I feel like this franchise may have been given a new - and promising - lease on life.

I do have one endgame nitpick which I'm curious to see if anyone else thought about. It hadn't hit me at all until one of my friends pointed it out, and it's a fair spoiler, so I'll wait a few days to see if anyone else mentions it...

Yeah, OK, that's it exactly. I have two thoughts on that...












































1. We don't really know that the mask and gauntlet that the classic predator picked up were his. I was thinking that maybe the gauntlet was from another fallen predator who was part of a previous hunting party. There was a skull seen earlier in the movie, and Noland claimed to have killed 2-3 of them. If the ship belonged to the hunting party, then the tech would match.

2. If the ship belonged to the classic predator, then maybe the hunting party booby trapped it once they captured him. It was their insurance policy that, even if he did escape and try to get back to his ship, he wouldn't make it very far.





















































I'd be interested to see how the director would explain this.
