Kind of a cool sub-genre, list movies where there is no significant passage of time. It can be 1.5 days or even closer to 2 days as long as there is continual action and the main character(s) doesn't sleep or otherwise go MIA for several hours, so The Hangover doesn't count. It has to be for the entire film, which is why Speed doesn't count, since the first 10 minutes were all about the bomb in the building and Pop Quiz Hotshot.

I don't want to be that asshole who makes the thread then takes all the good examples, so I'll list a dozen or so and then see what the rest of you can come up with

Training Day
All 4 Die Hards (I think)
Collateral
Clerks
Phone Booth
After Hours
Dazed and Confused
Harold and Kumar
Go

^^wasn't sure if that DQd a movie or not since you didn't say. 25th Hour contains a lot of flashbacks too if I recall but it is certainly meant to be over the course of one day/short period of time.

it's been awhile since i've seen either one, but I think Crank and Crank 2 fit this model.

This is pretty tough though...

are you saying movies with a prologue that happened a few years before do or do not count?

Superbad is so close.

Mallrats fits the criteria, I think.

Prologue or Epilogue disqualifies it

I think Comedies are easy to film as one day movies since its usually just about 4 jagoffs wandering around doing dumb shit

Dramas and action movies are much more difficult and rarer because its hard to keep up that breakneck pace for 90+ consecutive minutes

Technically the entire Back to the Future trilogy took place over the course of one day

edit: nm, now that I think about it, Marty doesn't go back in time until after we wakes up at 1am to meet the doc at twin pines mall.

I didn't see the first 15 minutes, but Last House on the Left. Its seems like many of the George Romero type zombie movies were one day films.

that's stupid...Justin Bertha doesn't even make top billing on the movie poster. he's by no means a "main character."

Listen, lady, I wasn't even talking about "Justin Bertha", I was talking about Bradley Cooper, Andy Bernard and Zach Galfnakakis.

I distinctly remember there being a scene where they woke up from a night of drinking, thus splitting the movie into two days, thus splitting the movie into two parts, thus violating the principle of taking place in one day.

You're the stupid one.

so can it be closer to 2 days or can't it by your definition?

as far as Justin Bertha the

threw me off. I thought that was your basis for disqualifying The Hangover. My apologies.

Regardles the majority of the movie takes place during your specified time period. the set up of leaving for vegas and the finale of finally getting home is at best 20 minutes of a nearly 2 hour movie.

Then you would have to count Speed, Superbad, Pulp Fiction and dozens of other movies where the majority of it occurs in day but there is a little extra and the beginning or end that doesn't. I did this because those are a lot more ambiguous and harder to classify.

By saying 1.5 to 2 days, this allows for a period greater than 24 hours as long as there is constant action and not a break to sleep, pass out, or something that requires a significant passage of time. I'm pretty sure Die Hard 3 takes more than 24 hours but its nonstop throughout; Bruce and Samuel L. don't take a nap or anything in second act.

I forget...I think Spun took place over 3 days but Jason Schwartzman didn't sleep the entire time. However, I havent seen that movie in like 8 years so I can't remember.

The fact that it cant have any epilogue or anything makes it tough (Still tons of movies to name, but a lot of the ones I initially thought off I had to omit). IE Death and the Maiden is awesome and takes place in mainly one single location on one night but it has an epilogue

I forgot about Slacker. Tape works, too. I already mentioned Before Sunrise/Sunset and suBurbia. I guess you could add Waking Life as well.

Richard Linklater loves a highly constrained time frame.
