Long Story short: My 98 Black Monte Carlo was rear ended in the Summer of 2006 and had a new rear bumper and quarter panel put on, and painted, by a locally-owned small body shop.

As the years have passed, the paint has begun to flake, leaving a lovely yellow plastic beneath the flaking black paint.

Now, the car has 195,000 miles on it and I'll be getting rid of it by the end of the summer - most likely selling to a private party rather than trading it in.

So does anyone know what I should do here? Should I take it back to the body shop and tell 'em they did a shit job and fix it? Should I just spray-paint it with high-gloss black so it looks good enough?

Or, if I decided to have it painted, what should I expect to pay.

Thanks Garage dudes.

it's a 98 monte carlo. the mexican you sell it to won't care about the bumper. he's probably gonna paint it purple anyway.

I've had luck fixing chips like that by buying those small spray cans of touch-up paint and spraying them through a drinking straw to get a small spot beam that you can control yet still feather the edge. If you tape off the area around the chip you'll just end up with a noticeable line.

Take it back to the body shop and tell them if they don't fix it you're going to knock up their daughters. That's a threat they can identify with.
