When I said today in another thread that I was annoyed by the right calling the President messiah/christ all the time (anti-christ is pretty stupid too) it had nothing to do with this fyi.
But these kind of posts in the soap box I could do with less of:
Aaronburro: “you'd be pitching a shit-fit. Since it supports the Messiah” “meh, what does a geologist know about science that the messiah doesn't?” “Care to defend the messiah now?” “But hey, who gives a damned about the facts when it comes to the Messiah, right?” “differing viewpoints from the Messiah” “Run away and worship your messiah some more.” “I'm sorry that your messiah blinders don't allow you to see this” “see such a blatantly bad thing about your messiah” “because Obama is the messiah.” “no matter how much you try to paint your messiah otherwise” “as gospel from their messiah.” “helps your messiah” “why can't The Messiah do the Lord's work?” "It's just that stuff hurts the messiah" “Can you forgive me for attacking the Messiah?” "ignore that your messiah is one" “the MESSIAH says... “Pull your head out of your ass and stop kissing your messiah's ass”
Earthdogg: “It's Good to be The Messiah.” “The Messiah never contradicts himself... You're gonna get hit by lightning!” “We can't have America attacked while the Messiah is in office.” “Obama's aides tell us that the Messiah was too tired” “But I'm not predicting our wise Messiah will be able to pull this off.” “The Messiah...Obama Be Thy Name” “He's the messiah...the plan will work under his divine guidance.” “the Messiah sounds a lot like your basic liberal, class warrior”

There is little doubt the Hutaree guys are pretty messed up in the head.
But, it's a shame that the FBI has lost so much credibility on any investigation like this that I am inclined to roll my eyes and disbelieve anything they say. 3/29/2010 11:17:03 PM |

Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc. are just a small part of a larger problem, and actually don't include what I think most likely happened here.
The wacko Earth Liberation Front, plenty of Muslim mosques, WTO protest groups, and many others have been victims.
The problem is that the undercover FBI agents, or their informants, do not merely act as reporters of what the group is up to. They agitate and suggest actual terrorism, trying to convince a group that may otherwise not be interested in such things to do them. All they need to find as a very small subset of that group that shows any lack of rebuke toward those suggestions and the case is made.
Undercover FBI agents routinely join in protests and actually initiate hostile actions toward the police to justify a crackdown. Sometimes the madness of the crowd follows them, and sometimes they don't. But, either way, the group protesting is easily tarred as violent and it justifies prosecution and harsher investigation.
Many of these groups are actually very dangerous. But it is unethical, and unwise, to stoop to their level to gain unjustified convictions.
I think every person here would object if undercover Raleigh PD went into bars under false pretenses trying to convince the drunks to drive in that condition, and then arresting them if they do. That's exactly what the FBI and other law enforcement do in cases like this.
And guess what happens when other fringe groups notice such a repeated trend? They're more motivated to commit actual terrorism because of the injustice.

It doesn't matter at all. Besides the point that there are a thousand examples of the tactic in the NYT article, even if the Pittsburgh agitators were locals instead of feds, one would rightly assume that whatever the locals do, the feds do more. 3/30/2010 4:20:38 PM |

Quote : | "DETROIT - An FBI agent who led the investigation of nine Michigan militia members charged with trying to launch war against the federal government couldn't recall many details of the two-year probe yesterday during questioning by defense lawyers.
Even the judge who must decide whether to release the nine until trial was puzzled.
"I share the frustrations of the defense team … that she doesn't know anything," U.S. District Judge Victoria Roberts said after agent Leslie Larsen confessed she hadn't reviewed her notes recently and couldn't remember specific details of the case.
Judge Roberts is hearing an appeal of another judge's order that has kept members of so-called Hutaree militia in jail since their arrest in late March.
The indictment says the nine planned to kill police officers as a steppingstone to a widespread uprising against the federal government.
Defense lawyers, however, say their clients are being punished for being outspoken.
Prosecutors fought to keep Ms. Larsen off the witness stand, saying the defendants had no legal right to question her.
But the judge said the agent's appearance was appropriate because the burden is on defense lawyers to show their clients won't be a threat to the public if released.
The nine lawyers asked specific questions about each defendant. Ms. Larsen said she had not listened entirely to certain recordings made by an undercover agent who infiltrated the group.
She said that because they were still being examined, she didn't know if weapons seized by investigators last month were illegal.
At other times, Ms. Larsen couldn't answer questions because she said she hadn't reviewed investigative reports.
Defense lawyer William Swor asked if the No. 1 defendant, Hutaree leader David Stone, had ever instructed anyone to make a bomb.
"I can't fully answer that question," the agent replied.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan Tukel defended Ms. Larsen, telling the judge it wasn't clear until Monday that she would testify.
Judge Roberts, however, said she told the government to be prepared last week.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ronald Waterstreet played an audiotape of what he said were several militia members talking freely about killing police.
The participants talked over each other, often laughed and made goofy noises and disparaging remarks about law enforcement.
Prosecutors objected to questions about interpreting the secretly recorded conversations, but the judge said they were fair game.
The judge will resume the court hearing today.
Prosecutors will have a chance to question people who are willing to be responsible for some of the nine if they are released from jail." |
It appears that the sentence in italics is their real crime.4/29/2010 3:36:21 AM |
