My roommate's dad is in town and he's working on our computer. I'm quietly eating spaghetti-Os and studying when all of a sudden a demonic scream from his laptop pierces the silence.

After coughing up any inhaled portions of meatballs from said spaghetti-O's he informs me it happens every hour or so and his computer continually pops up messages about buying virus software, he's unable to access Outlook, it won't let him open word, and he cannot connect to the wireless network.

Can I help him without wiping the drive, or should I just have a boiling hot bowl of spaghetti-O's ready to throw at him the next time it happens?

Easiest solution is to just wipe it. Does he even have virus software that a scan might help?
