So I'm now solely supporting an Access DB written by someone else. My fu in Access isn't terribly strong, as it's been years since I used it with any frequency. I'm trying to figure out something about a macro, which is being called by a button press on a form. Probably a dumb question to ask, but what the hell... I'm getting nowhere on my own.
I'm looking at the list of actions being taken by the macro, and I'm seeing it apparently calling some queries. These queries aren't included in the normal list of them, so I'm wondering if they're actually gone, or if I can find them elsewhere? Where would I look? 4/11/2010 6:45:48 PM |

you can actually hide stuff in Access. Kind of like you can hide directories in windows. i don't recall how to show that stuff off the top of my head, but that is probably what happened 4/11/2010 7:09:25 PM |

the thing is that i half-way believe that someone actually deleted the queries, not knowing that they were for. but i have no way to prove that, and only a couple of action comments to know what's supposed to happen in the macro. 4/11/2010 7:12:51 PM |

well, if they deleted the query, then you are prolly fucked. might as well see if they are hidden 4/11/2010 7:13:44 PM |

finding hidden queries in access 2007 seems... non-intuitive. 4/11/2010 7:30:55 PM |

well, i did a search through the VB code for the entire project (assuming I can trust that?), without any luck. and i don't see evidence of the query anywhere else.
what happens to the macro if someone runs it and those queries don't exist? will it throw errors or something? 4/11/2010 7:41:41 PM |

afraid not. the data in it is FERPA-protected. 4/11/2010 8:08:30 PM |

I guess I'll find out more tomorrow from a couple of people that use this particular form. I don't mind recreating the queries, but I'd rather troubleshoot than write from scratch. 4/11/2010 8:43:52 PM |

Found it!
Thanks to Experts Exchange for tipping me off as to how to view the hidden queries: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Microsoft/Development/MS_Access/Q_23297976.html
*NOW* I can troubleshoot. 4/11/2010 9:22:00 PM |
