the CatGenie is an automatically flushing cat toilet. you hook it up to a water line, run the drain hose to a toilet or washing machine drain in the wall, and plug it in. it scoops, washes, rinses, and dries plastic-like biodegradable litter granules.
The only automatic cat box that flushes waste away and, like a cat, washes itself clean.
* Uses permanent Washable Granules that never need changing * Comfy CatGenie Granules satisfy your cat’s need to dig and cover * It's your appliance that takes cat litter out of your life for good * One-time, easy DIY connection to water; * Tested, used and recommended by veterinarians, nationwide

this is the CatGenie 60, tuxedo package (with sidewalls & dome/hood), CG mat, turbo scrubber (the white wheel thing in the bowl in the picture, it goes under the bowl), upgraded geniehand (scooper), and turbo hopper.
i bought the unit in December 2008, and it comes with a 2 year warranty, so there's still 7 months left on it. it works fine and i haven't had any problems or replaced anything beyond the water sensor, a clear piece of plastic that looks like a tuning fork, which is typically replaced after a year or so. i have completely scrubbed and sanitized the CG using a water+bleach solution, rinsing, then wiping it down with Nature's Miracle Advanced cleaner solution, and rinsed again. it's clean enough to eat off of.
the CatGenie 60 is the generation prior to what is currently for sale on the the manufacturer's website. the CG60's sanisolution cartridges can be reset. the new 120 model version cannot.
the CG60 cleaning solution cartridges have a chip inside them that tells the CG when it has run 60 washes and is "empty". i have a cartridge resetting device that you simply line up with the contacts on the cartridge, hit the button, then fill with whatever cleaning solution you want. i have always used the Nature's Miracle Advanced solution. the cartridges are $15 each, so refilling & resetting them can save you even more money. CatGenie/Petnovations caught onto the guys making these resetters and sent them cease & desist letters, so you are no longer able to find these devices unless you buy it from one who had one already. they are VERY hard to find anywhere online, even if you know where to look. i have the contact info for the guy who made this in case you have any questions.
i have 6 cartridges, 5 of which have been reset. the one that has not is about 75% full.
to save even more money, you can use doll filler plastic beads, bulk plastic pellets, millet seed, and a million other different things instead of the $25/box CG granules.
i can sell just the unit w/o the resetter, but i'm not parting anything else out.
i live in rocky mount but can meet you in raleigh on april 24th.
asking $375 for everything
----- there's something weird going on with the pics. the rest are in my gallery...

i was going to bid, but aren't these less than $300 new? 4/15/2010 9:52:41 PM |

the 120 model is $330-400 new, plus the cartridges, mat, and the resetter. we paid $390 for ours. 5 extra cartridges at $24 each = $120 (of course mine are empty except for one). the scrubber/hopper/scoop upgrade was $30.
i'll go $275 on the unit by itself. the resetters are worth $texas in the catgenie world (i'm posting this in those forums too). the same reason that makes the resetters worth more makes the unit itself worth more because of the modification/hacking potential. i've seen some INSANE setups with one that are out of warranty. there are a couple of guys working on a chip that goes in a dummy cartridge that lets you program and monitor the unit remotely. they setup a big gallon jug of solution with some tubing. i wish i was that smart.
if you've ever had an indoor cat, it is a very awesome thing to be able to set something like this up and not do a damn thing to it for 6-8 months (the recommended cleaning interval). no scooping, no litter changing, nothing.

Not sure why he is selling his, but I've had one from the beginning and I think its a life changer. But if you have an older cat, getting them to use it is going to be tricky, and when these units have a problem (maybe 1-2 times a year for my unit), its a nasty mess. 4/20/2010 9:58:54 AM |

BTW, guys. The cartridge resetter is why the price is so high. The company that makes this threatened legally all the people making the resetters. It made them go away. Plenty of people still want them.
I'd make an offer on the unit without the resetter if you want it cheap, and let him ebay or sell the resetter on litterboxforum.com 4/20/2010 12:14:01 PM |

yeah, like i said earlier, i'll sell just the unit w/o the resetter. i've posted on litterbox central too.
i have to get rid of mine b/c my cat has a severe chronic constipation/pending megacolon problem. his poop is SUPER hard, like rocks, and the cg just can't work with that. i have to be able to take samples in to the vet occasionally too. it handles regular poop, even semi hard poop just fine. stupid cat
i had no problems getting either cat acclimated. i tried to follow the instructions of shutting the door to let it run so it doesn't scare them or whatever, but they wouldn't have that. they had to see what's going on. yoshi would run to it everytime it came on so he could watch.

I imagine you've already tried a high fiber diet? I switched my cat to that a while ago because of similar (but much less severe) issues. Solved it for me. 4/20/2010 2:00:16 PM |

yeah, he's on a high fiber diet, and i have to give him miralax w/ benefiber & milk (the majority of cats are lactose intolerant) a couple of times a week. 4/20/2010 2:01:48 PM |

probably
the way i found out was horrible too. he looked fat, like he'd gained a lot of weight over a couple of days, way quicker than normal. he was kinda mopey and i picked him up to pet him and a big hard piece of poop fell out of his butt!!!! it was so hard it bounced a few times. 4/20/2010 5:10:27 PM |
