first do a little internet research to find out if her car has shocks or struts b/c they're not the same thing. If you're somewhat handy with a wrench I'd say to do them yourself - though I say that knowing nothing about a Volvo's suspension. 4/16/2010 10:14:29 AM |

Shocks in da back and struts in the front. Not to hard but you will need a spring compressor tool advance has them fopr like $35 but they are dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. 4/16/2010 10:23:26 AM |

Ok, was kinda hoping there would be someone on here that could do it for some dollar bucks and/or beer. I'm a Volvo newbie. 5/5/2010 1:44:35 PM |

if you're mechanically inclined and have some tools you can do it just fine yourself. 5/5/2010 2:15:03 PM |

It's a learning experience. Give yourself plenty of time. First time I swapped my shocks it took me 15 hrs. 2nd time 7 hrs. 5/5/2010 3:03:26 PM |

^I didn't mention how long it took me the 3rd time - 4 hrs
Keep in mind I have very rudimentary tools 5/6/2010 2:13:46 PM |

id say 3 hrs should be on target with basic tools and a driveway if you are experienced. hour and a half max for a lift and proper tools.
Alldata says .5 hr for rear, 2.5 for front..
Its one of those crappy strut cartrige with teh half-ass nut that holds the shock in the tube.. There is a special wrench to get those off, or there is the BIG ASS TARD CHANNELLOCK approach... Either way, its a PITA especially if its rust.
I would recommend getting someone to do it.. 5/6/2010 3:38:12 PM |

might hit you up on that Ragged. It'll be a little while though, we're moving next weekend and have an out of town BBQ to attend the following weekend. 5/7/2010 6:28:50 AM |
