Interesting article. It's long, so I'll just provide the link.

Side note: I think I've plugged STRATFOR on here before, but I highly recommend them as an alternative to mainstream-media bullshit punditry.

This is a very clever way to say there's no way forward with Iran, Duke.

Come on, with all the bullshit and drivel out there, you guys won't even bother to look at something that's actually a worthwhile read?

just got done reading it.

not sure I really understand their way forward.

Basically their plan is to allow Iran to meddle in the Iraqi government, which should piss Turkey off enough to similarly meddle in the Iraqi government (to prevent Iran from becoming too powerful); thus pitting these two countries against each other, while AMerica can withdrawal from Iraq and focus on Afghanistan?

to me this has blow up in your face written all over it. How does it prevent Iran from becoming nuclear?

What American conflicts after WWII didn't have that written all over it?

^Desert Storm

[Edited on April 21, 2010 at 2:08 PM. Reason : persian gulf war, whatever]

I do totally agree with them that sanctions probably aren't going to work and bombing them isn't really our best option either.

Well that blew up a little over a decade later.

^because thats where the real people responsible for 9/11 are hiding. Not in Iraq...that was just the Bush family tying loose ends. Now that Bush got what he wanted we can focus on the real problem.

well, I'd argue that desert storm didn't really have much to do with us returning to Iraq.

Like you said, if it hadn't been for our half-assed leadership we could have just let Iraq be instead of returning.
and according to the article Iraq could have even been an ally against a nuclear Iran (thats a stretch though)

^exactly. Bush Sr. couldn't invade Iraq because he wouldn't have had the support of the people and he didn't want another Vietnam on his hands. A quick clean cut victory was what America needed at the time.

Enter Bush Jr. and the rest is history.

I think most people would argue that going to hell for killing innocent people makes a lot more sense than being rewarded with 1,3xx virgins in heaven

It doesn't really say that would've been an ally--it says they would've been a potentially useful regional counterweight.
