Check out XCOM Extraterrestrials Gold on Steam -- think its $19.99 if I remember right. It is a GREAT sequel to XCOM Ufo Defense and XCOM Terror From the Deep. I picked it up a month or so ago, definitely worth the $$

You mean UFO: Extraterrestrials, which is not to be confused with the other UFO series games. There are two game developers making spiritual successors to X-COM.

Chaos Interactive has made the most recent "sequel", UFO: Extraterrestrials (07) and is supposedly doing a sequel UFO2Extraterrestrials. I have heard it's pretty good, but I have not played it.

ALTAR Interactive bought the undeveloped project Freedom Ridge from Mythos Games, the original X-COM dev studio, and completely revamped the game. That became UFO: Aftermath. They have done a series of "sequels" to X-COM, Aftermath (03), Aftershock (05), and Afterlight (07).

The original designer, Julian Gollop, made Laser Squad Nemesis in 2002, which is another turn-based squad tactics game. That company, Codo Technologies, appears to be inactive, so who knows what the hell he's doing now.

Have you played any of the original games besides UFO Defense though? Terror from the Deep is pretty damn hard, even if it is basically a reskin of the first. Apocalypse was the last one worth a damn, and was developed by Mythos Games and Julian as well. I played through all of them at least once.

I always like Jagged Alliance 2. It's old, but the game is still a lot of fun to play. Characters gain experience and have both matching and clashing personalities. Some strategic and quest-like elements as well.

Nighthawk -- that is the one, my bad on the wording. It's important to get the GOLD edition though, as the original UFO: Extraterrestrials had a number of issues that people severely disliked (such as soldiers never actually dying, etc) that a huge modding community fixed with a number of addons, updates, and patches.

The GOLD version includes fixes for just about every major issue people had with the game, and comes prebundled with a built in trainer of sorts that lets you modify how you play the game.

I've played both versions and I can definitively say you are wasting your money if you don't buy the GOLD edition.

^^^Hell you can go buy the original X-COM and run it on anything from Steam. I did the $2 deal and bought the entire X-COM series for like $8, I think, just to be able to rerun the first 3 whenever I want without have to worry about dosbox.
