Steam and Gas Turbines starts tomorrow. I have heard from several people that Boles is much more relaxed in senior level classes and summer classes. Your thoughts/experiences are appreciated. 5/18/2010 11:23:32 PM |

you pretty much summed it up. He is a good teacher for any class I had him for but he was definitely way more relaxed in 407 than say Thermo I&II. 5/19/2010 8:14:29 AM |

^2nd. I heard horror stories from my MAE friends about him, but I took him for Thermo I a couple of summers ago and ended up with an A. He seems to think that summer students are more motivated and he doesn't have to be as hard on them. (i.e. not grading HW & probably easier tests) 5/21/2010 12:05:14 PM |

was just checking out the syllabus.. HW isn't graded, 2 tests, 35% each and a final, 30%.. i think i'll do just fine
also, if anyone printed the notes and wants to give them to me, that'd be cool] 5/24/2010 12:01:02 AM |

Glad I took this class. 2 take home tests were easy, final exam was optional.
got out with an A
Boles is retiring.. scaling back to teaching one section of 301 in the fall (with 130 students!! must be distance ed) and one of 302 in the spring 6/25/2010 12:26:29 PM |

^^^ He makes very little off of the book. He has put a lot of time and effort into making it better, and if you take his classes, you use the Thermo book as well. He provides notes, and doesn't make you buy a book for the class.
After getting 3 classes out of the book, I can say that I got my money out of it. The only other book like that was my Calc book, where I used it for Calc 1, 2 and 3. 6/28/2010 10:52:48 AM |

plus, based on other thermo books I have seen people use at other schools, his is probably the best I have seen. I still keep one around as a reference at work. 6/28/2010 12:52:06 PM |
