For those that dont want to read up on it, its a multiplayer online battle arena, in the vain of Dota. It has 53 playable champions that can be purchased, but any given week 10 are available for free use. You can also buy additional skins for the champions. So your free play is being subsidized by people playing dress up.

been playing this about 8 months now, its a lot of fun.

problem is when they put out new characters they're always overpowered initially then take a huge nerf, and eventually come back again to being around normal.

edit - also having played Heroes of Newerth I can say i enjoy the aspects of denying in HoN, and purchasing from anywhere on the map.

League of Legends has a simpler method to purchase items though, and the environment is a lot less detailed making it a little easier to keep track of what is going on.

i have both, i don't mind HoN in the hardcore setting. I played it after playing league of legends.

I started doing well in HoN too, so it wasn't that I just flat out sucked at the game being my reason to turning back to LoL. It's easier to pick up with friends conserving money, its a simply easier game to get the hang of and less forgiving.

I realize a lot of the original dota fans will not turn to it as HoN keeps all their old heroes, abilities and a better graphics engine though. That game is far less forgiving to new players though.

One of the reasons i prefer lol to hon is that i play with a few guys from my old wow guild and any 3 of us can carry a 5v5 if we get queued up with some fail bait.

started playing this a week or so ago. its p awesome if you love dota (which i did).

how well i do seems to depend on who else is playing. really tough to carry a team. played some veigar last night and was 7/1/15, but the team was so awful that it didnt matter. it probably doesnt help that i generally prefer support heroes (not that veigar with 4-500 AP is support lol).

A basic breakdown of things I was unaware of when I first started playing the game having not played dota prior:

1. enemy turrets will always hit the closest friendly unit in range until an enemy champion is attacked. in which case it will immediately retarget the attacker. it has been known to jump, but usually stays on that person until they die or leave range. the damage scales with each following hit.

2. master yi may seem like a god at low summoner levels, but later on teams plan cc for such an easy target.

3. learn a character in each category: attack damage, ability power, tank and support.

4. if you die more than 3 times in the first 5 minutes ask to change lanes or start hugging that turret like a stripper embraces her working pole.

5. dont build all offensive items unless your team can protect you and get you fed. usually build 3 "core" items and then buy to adapt to survive against the enemy team. http://www.leaguecraft.com is a good place to find champion guides

6. its a 5v5 or 3v3 game, you can't carry a team solo, if you find someone who you think is good, might want to add them and play with them more, and don't throw them out due to one or two bad games, when your elo gets higher you start to play some very skilled players or may run into a particularly dangerous laning combination.

Im like 10 or 15 under .500(minimum)
Im a little underrated since I was trying to learn tryn and failed epically (most of the time). I also had a relatively long string of people leaving and it being a 4v5. I think Im gonna try and start working on learning to build and play a tank stun/support annie unless yaw think that would be useless but you could join up with me when i get that together if you wanted to(after finals).
Not sure how ELO works in premades but I assume that would help (if im competitive)?
