Well it is about time that hardware and USB 3.0 chipsets meet. USB 3.0 has been used on some X58 boards and ignored on others (even considered premium boards). Many people question the reason to upgrade over USB 2.0; but with most new technology adoption takes time.

Quote : | "Conclusion
Our tests have shown that USB 3.0 offers enough bandwidth to reveal the full speed potential of a modern HDD. The dramatic innovations in the USB interface imply bright perspectives as well. On the other hand, we have not seen the promised tenfold performance boost. The devices we have tested cannot yield more than 160 MBps where SATA 300 easily delivers 250 MBps.
Early USB 2.0 implementations were not optimal in terms of data-transfer rate, either, so we do hope that we will see faster USB 3.0 controllers. We are also looking forward to mainboard chipsets with native USB 3.0 support. Until then, the new standard can hardly take off for real because it has a serious opponent, eSATA, when it comes to external HDDs. Although eSATA cannot power up the connected device, it is more widespread as yet than USB 3.0 and delivers higher speed. USB 3.0 will prevail eventually, but the question is how much time it will take." |

if your motherboard doesn't support USB 3.0 you still have a few options, like USB 3.0 PCI-e 1x cards:
http://www.evga.com/articles/00548/
ASUS also has a USB 3.0 card available:
The chipset used on the motherboards is the same used on the cards, similar to the NF200 SLI chip used on the 295 vs SLI Motherboards.
The speed is pretty impressive in the above graphs, finally external HDs will be at or above SATA-II speeds.

you do know trolling in TechTalk is suspendable right?
Today the first ITX board with USB 3.0 support was announced:

Also found another USB 3.0 Card from Patriot:

Their full USB 3.0 line:

Um...I'm trying to have a discussion about new hardware technology which is finally being used (USB 3.0). I can't help I have a small following of trolls who post in every Tech Talk thread I make (this includes you).
Please show me another USB 3.0 thread.

no, you saw something come up on your rss feed and decide to pad tech talk with your drivel
usb 3.0 has been out for a while now, and there is nothing new or exciting about the technology (maybe there was a year ago, but you're behind, kid)...if you have a question, or relevant experience to share with the rest of us, by all means...until that point, stop posting this crap

did you even bother to search for "usb"

USB 3.0 talk has been out for "a while" but modern motherboards (i7 and i5) still don't all offer it (somewhat due to Intel). That is why we see PCI-e 1x cards offering USB 3.0 support.
Haha you want me to pad a thread from 9/14/2009 with a whole 12 posts of dribble?
Almost all of my linked articles are within the last week (if not days) and are discussing the technology (chipset) of USB 3.0 finally meeting the hardware of USB 3.0. Something that was not possible until recently. 6/9/2010 4:46:16 PM |

1.) at least you realize you're padding and not offering anything of value 2.) yes, i expect that when you have nothing unique to add, you should contribute to the "dribble" instead of wasting space in the database with a new thread

If USB 3.0 is found on the board (as I said with some there is) it is added by the board manufacturer, not the Intel chipset.

HAHAHAHA...okay, chief, you've taught me a lesson
thanks for making a thread to let us all know that USB 3.0 on our motherboards may not be intel...where would we all be if you weren't watching out for us?

so...i guess the USB 3.0 ports don't actually work on all these motherboards? i mean, what IS your point? you've just made a thread about "common knowledge" and yet that is a reason not to bump a thread that already exists on the same topic? 6/9/2010 5:04:03 PM |

You tried to argue that I'm a dumb ass because some i7/i5 boards support USB 3.0 (I never said some didn't). Then when you are proven wrong you change your post into OH MAN THANK YOU FOR CLARIFYING THIS, WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT YOU?
Just proves you talk out of your ass and have no idea what is actually going on. Doing a search on NewEgg doesn't prove jack shit except that you are a dumbass as I never said that ALL i7/i5 boards don't support USB 3.0. I said Intel doesn't and therefore not all i5/i7 boards have USB 3.0 support.
