everything I'm seeing on Google so far only talks about BSODs and lockups/crashes. No one really says anything about compromised performance so I was j/w.

if you're talking about a power supply that cant handle the demand from your gpu, then yes it will be unstable and could potentially create other problems resulting in anything from slower performance to bsod

The game will perform slower, have less frames per second, and overall be unplayable.

Just get a console so you don't have to update your computer every 3 months to play the latest and greatest

thermaltake butterfly 480w (bought many years ago)

17amps on 12v single rail

but I just saw some benchmarks with HD5770's using up all of 5A on load, and GTX260s ~9A so uuh,
what is this 40A requirement BS?

I was able to run an XFX HD5770 OC'ed to 930/1400 (from 850/1200) on stock cooler on an Athlon64 3500+ system on this PSU No problems but my bottlenecked PC made the $200 vid card not worthwhile, so I returned it.

FWIW:
3500+@2.5ghz and HD5770@930/1400 3Dmark05 = 11325 (CPU marks=5035)
phenomII x4 965@3.4ghz(stock) and 7900GT OC'ed about 50mhz 3Dmark05 = 9172 (CPU marks=16200 )

[Edited on June 9, 2010 at 10:34 AM. Reason : maybe I should go back for the card ]
