I think this thread would benefit from your common food consumptions and any particular difficulties had in this process.

i cook every single meal i consume. i've definitely spent less than $50 since the beginning of the year on prepared food

1 year of no fast food, exactly 1 serving of red meat over the past 2 years and exactly zero refined sugar in the past 2 years has helped me go from:

235 lbs, size XL shirt, size 38/40 pants

to:

170 lbs, size M shirt, size 31/32 pants

^ that's pretty damn impressive. awesome work.

I would never give up bojangle's. And even that's a once or twice a month affair for me, except during football season.

other than that, i'm not a big fan of fast food. it's useful on road trips and airports where you just want to fill your belly fast and cheap and get on with where you're going.

I live two blocks from a McDonalds and I'm proud to say that I've eaten there once in the past five years. Unfortunately, I eat at Moes weekly.

Also, that McD's 365Black thing is the absolute essence of racism. Whites as well as blacks should both be offended by it.

oh, believe me, I would LOVE to partake in your Taco Bell trips, late night Cook-Out feasts, weekly pizza dinners, etc.

it's been VERY tempting

yep, and that was during the height of my TKE days and the 2 years I was IFC VP. so many girls said they absolutely loved my personality. unfortunately, none of them liked my C-cup and my fupa. i missed out on years and years of prime tushie

How is that necessarily unhealthy?

Sure if you load up on the cheese and sour cream...but it's just like anything, depends on what you order.

i was on my way to a day long wildland firefighter training course during my internship in Northern Michigan. we had to be there at 7 and we were running late. we were told to bring a lunch to eat while we were in the middle of nowhere, but we forgot to do so since we were running late. the only grocery store that we passed along the way was closed in the morning, so i couldn't buy anything to have for lunch. so we bought breakfast to eat at noon because that was the only thing available.

In all honesty, I have a lot of respect for those who can have the discipline to eat like that. I know it's not easy for some people to keep weight off and I have to credit them for taking the initiative to be able to that. I don't know if I would be able.

I eat like a dumpster yet have perfect blood pressure and cholesterol levels and a great metabolism so I don't really have to worry about it right now, especially when it comes to gaining weight (though I work out and run a lot). My biggest issue is that I have too many empty calories from alcohol. I don't necessarily get drunk but most days when I'm done with everything for the night I'll have a beer or two or glass of wine or two. That consistently adds up and I'm trying to be better about it.

the other thing is that i'm semi-unemployed, so i'm at home quite a lot and that makes it easier for me to be able to cook every meal. i'm sure that as soon as i'm fully-employed and always on-the-go, it'll be extremely tough to avoid the convenience of a quick, prepared meal.

congrats man! While I can't say that I have *completely* sworn off fast food, I can say that I probably stop at a fast food place <1x a month. Usually if I'm driving out of town and didn't have time or resources on hand to pack my meal easily.

Now, I do have oven baked pizzas once or twice a week, but I'm not sure how your post relates to that

But fast food is just so overpriced and unhealthy that I hardly even desire to have any these days. It was tough at first since I ate tons of it in college of course. But after I had been out of college for a year or so I decided to make the change and have been pretty good about it the past 2 years.

we should start a thread for fucking the man, where people post their DIY projects that stick it to the man

yep. once you get on a roll, as far as going without fast food, it becomes easier and easier to do without it. then every time you drive past a Bojangles or Burger King, craving a quick meal, you think to yourself "why spend 4-7 bucks for something that I know is horrible for me."

(instead I use that 5 bucks for tobacco which is equally horrible for me)

wow tim you look great! good job

giving up fast food wouldn't be so hard for me (with the exception of chick fil a and the occasional cook-out milkshake) but giving up eating out in general would be the tough part. i love the social aspect of eating in a restaurant and some things just taste better than i know how to cook. i DO however need to make eating out a special occasion type thing. something that i will appreciate more and also have the ability to choose nicer restaurants.

at least the great thing is that it really isn't hard to cook a lot of what you eat at fast food places and put a healthy spin on it. plus you get to experiment with ideas and recipes in the kitchen, which is nice for the long run.
