Im very skeptical of this game. The animation looks like a cross between wind waker and twilight princess. Anyway, im just hoping it doesnt suck.

link lives in a place called "sky loft" which is an island in the clouds... one day, they notice EVIL lurking in the land below. WIth the help of the skyward sword (which turns into the master sword), Link must travel between the lands to get rid of evil.

i think this is definitely an origin of the master sword story.. they say it takes place at least 400 years before ocarina of time... this story may even be the founding of hyrule...

the oocca (founders of hyrule) were said to be from the sky....

Obviously. I'm just hoping they don't pull another TP.

Twilight Princess had some REALLY good dungeons, but there are definitely trends in the latest Zelda games that I'm getting tired of.

1. The games have been WAY too easy since Ocarina of Time. Majora's Mask was a LITTLE harder, but it was damn near impossible to die in Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.

2. Exploration is not rewarded like it once was. In LTTP you could hit this gravestone, bomb this entrance, and you'd find cool shit like the Ice Rod or the Magic Cape. There was actually incentive to run around and try all this crazy shit because more often than not you got awesome items to help you through the game. Ocarina of Time had this to a degree, as did Majora's Mask, and Wind Waker was a huge step in the right direction for this sort of thing (nearly every island at least gave you something, or gave you a cool puzzle to solve). All of my exploration in Twilight Princess usually amounted to finding giant Rupees 90% of the time. Rupees are barely even necessary in Zelda, for fucks sake quit hiding them everywhere as "secrets", Nintendo.

Zelda games usually come out every three years. We had OOT in '98, MM in '00, WW in '03, and TP in '06. Since Nintendo is spending five years on this one, I'm REALLY hoping it kicks all kinds of ass since I do NOT want to see a rushed Zelda like TP was ever again.

majora's mask was close, but only because it was so ridiculously short

did you try to get all the masks? i racked up some serious play time on that game with all the side quests. but yeah, the story itself wasn't all that long.

Majora's Mask was another game that rewarded exploration. I forgot about all the side quests and definitely the masks that you would get.

I killed that game.

sure did...i guess i AM referring to the main storyline...IMO, side quests should not be NECESSARY to get decent play time out of a game

don't get me wrong, though, i loved the game...that's just the only zelda game i remember being annoyed with

I thought MM was very memorable, much more memorable that other Zeldas in terms of storyline.

Plus, it had my 2nd favorite level in any of the 3D zeldas (stone tower....the one you flip upside down). Favorite of all time is the Forest Temple in OOT. Shit was TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT

I loved OOC up until the part where you had to shoot the bullseye on horseback. I never got past that and thus, gave up before I could beat the game.

Zelda is the only game i've consistently tried to get 100% on.

I LOVE trying to get every single item in each game. I've owned and done that for every zelda game except the philips cdi ones...

Looks like there isn't going to be a left-handed option:

Quote :
"It's interesting because people say "all you have to do is switch it." But in reality, it's really hard. You have to change all the models -- you have to make two of everything. So really you're making two complete games, one left-handed version and one right-handed version. We just can't do that. For Twilight Princess, what we did was just create a mirror -- we flipped everything. And if that worked I guess we could do it that way, but again having to create two games is not something we want to do. We just hope that people will play it right-handed. "

Glad I'm right-handed. Suck it, Flanders!

Why don't they count? 'Cause your family was too poor to own a CD-i?

Because they weren't made by Nintendo, thus they don't count.

Continuity between Zelda games is virtually non-existent, except for the "side games" (ala Majora's Mask) that are typically loose followups to the previous game. The order of stuff has been contradicted in interviews and official web sites.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but if they do a clear link from Skyward Sword to Twilight Princess I'll be surprised.

Zelda: Four Swords Adventures was basically pointless unless you were in the %.02 of the population that can get 4 people together with GBAs and link cables. At this point there's no reason to play the game anymore.

The sailing/train-riding nearly kill the DS games. And sorry, Nintendo, tapping a screen ain't all that fun. I still haven't beat the final boss on Phantom Hourglass because it misreads my motions at one critical point.

i really think there will be a clear link (no pun intended) between TP and SS.

A good portion of TP was spent talking about the sky city and the oocca.
Now all of a sudden the next game is about a sky place? we'll see I guess...

and I bought 4 swords and played it 1 player and liked it...granted it was really really easy but it was still fun...

The look of the game is kind of weird. A lot like a cross between the cartoon shaded ones and the normal looking ones. They've got a year to work on it though. I loved the N64 for ones when I was younger, haven't played the ones since then.

In regards to the Zelda timeline, here's a fan-made explanation:

And it appears there IS a timeline:

http://www.zeldadungeon.net/2010/07/skyward-sword-before-ocarina-of-time-in-timeline/

Quote :
"Yes there is a master timeline but its confidential document!” explains Aunuma-san. “The only people to have access to that document are myself, Mr. Miyamoto and the director of the title. We cant share it with anyone else! I have already talked to Mr. Miyamoto about this so I am comfortable in releasing this information – this title [Skyward Sword] takes place before Ocarina of Time. if I said that a certain title was ‘the first Zelda game’, then that means that we cant ever make a title that takes place before that! So for us to add titles to the series, we have to have a way of putting the titles before or after each other."
