Cast is amazing.

Writing team is the opposite of that.

Not promising.

I am already sick of this movie.....the advertising is EVERYWHERE! I mean they really ran it into the ground before it even came out I refuse to see this just of the fact they are shoving it down peoples throats with commercials and such ALL THE TIME!

I still have no idea what kind of plot the movie has.

I want to see it but if it has no direction then it might be a flop.

I don't think I've ever seen a commercial for this during the day. On the other hand it seems like they show a commercial for this movie during every commercial break at night (after 9pm or so). I can't help but wonder why, since it seems like they're principle target market is asleep at that time of day. Maybe they're trying to recruit the parents to convert their kids?

Of course this is over the air channels, maybe it's a different story on cable.

I havent noticed there being any more commercials for this than just about every other movie that comes out.

I really want to see this. The extended preview I saw during Shrek Forever sold me

From my friend Joe, who hosts a radio show about movies:

Quote :
"Oh "Despicable Me," with no less than four fart jokes, three groin punches, an annoying Russian accent by Steve Carell, plot-holes galore, and weak characterization, you're yet another reason I thank God for the wonderful creators at Pixar."

I haven't seen this.

But I wish people would somewhat get over Pixar.

Pixar is not perfect.

And there are other good animated films.

like, Toy Story 3 had Pixar's first non-shitty ending in a while

i would have preferred wall-e's ending to go the other way, but i know it couldn't

the back half of up is just silly

but the only thing resembling a fart joke i can think of is "you guys made me ink"

The advertising makes it sound like it's mostly about yellow guys... the actual previews make the yellow guys look like minor side characters...

Kind of telling, actually, the way they're advertising this. They realize they made something that probably isn't especially funny, but they've got one group of side characters that is/can be funnier, and with everything Pixar has done, audiences might be open to the idea of seeing a movie that's just about little yellow guys... so all the advertising goes into vague nonsense with the funny yellow dudes with as little mention of the plot or main characters as possible.

Personally, I would much rather see a movie about the tiny yellow guys than a movie about Steve Carell trying to steal the moon and being interrupted by children. Too bad they didn't make that.

This movie looks like it was made to give little girls something to quote endlessly until their parents want to die from the annoyance.

Pixar movies:
colorful characters for kids, silly things for kids, jokes for everyone, jokes just for adults, plot driven themes/emotions for adults

Other CG movies:
colorful characters for kids, fart jokes for kids, occasional jokes for parents, pop culture references for the masses

god every animated film thread has this side conversation.

no man. pixar's monopoly on good animated films is deteriorating.

pixar itself isn't deteriorating, but other quality films are popping up more frequently than in the past.

"Other CG Movies" isn't really as accurate, since Cloudy With a Chance Of Meatballs was very good and generally used the same conventions as Pixar, but "Dreamworks" would fit fine into that post.

I consider Pixar movies in their own category b/c they just tend to but much more moving and hit the full gambut of emotions.

Most CG movies have been straight cash-ins on Pixar's success, but there are a few exceptions IMO. "How to Train your Dragon", Shrek, and Shrek 2 all come to mind as great films that I have enjoyed. Never saw Kung Fu Panda. Hated Cloudy with a Chance.

I had very high hopes for "Despicable Me" since it looked like it would be dark humor for kids. Then I saw that they were giving him kids to take care of and it dropped about 2-3 points in my book. Still might be good, but I think they might be trying to hard to make it a family movie.

Not bad, wouldn't buy it but it's ok for a date with the lady friend. There were some good parts but the best one I enjoyed was from the preview with the little one freakin out about how fluffy the toy is. This is definitely not as much over-the-head-for-little-kids humor as other Pixar films.
