How is there not a thread about this?

One of the best UFC events I have seen in a long time.

Honestly the first round I have seen fights stopped for less than what was happening to Lesnar in the first round, they tell us time and again that covering yourself is not intelligently defending yourself.

It is if your plan is to let the other guy gas himself out and then submit him like a little bitch

Yeah that was the third solid card in a row counting the tuf finale, not rampage-rashad. pretty entertaining fights they seem to really be loading the cards with stand up fighters lately.

I was really surprised with Lesnar's resilience. He got caught early in the 1st round and I thought he was able to defend himself regardless of whether guarding your face is considered intelligently defending yourself or not.

I mean, his forearms are so damn big that they literally cover his entire head when he puts them up. After the initial barrage, Carwin didn't do any damage because of that. I am glad they didn't stop it. I wanted to see how good Carwin's cardio would be since he has never made it in a fight past the first minute (12 KOs all in the 1st round and the 1st minute). The rematch should be pretty good. I think Lesnar has learned not to stand with this guy.

Is there going to be a rematch? I don't see why there should be. Carwin was the clear loser. Lesnar has no need to waste his time yet again on that guy.

Give someone else a chance to dethrone Lesnar.

I am not saying that Carwin will get a rematch immediately but it will happen.

Look at Lesnar vs Mir. Mir was the clear winner in the first match even though he got his ass handed to him for the better part of the match.

People get rematches all the time. Look at Chuck Liddell or Tito Ortiz. It doesn't have to make sense in order to happen.

Wow, yesterday's fight card was awesome.

Spoiler alert, for those of you who haven't seen it yet:

They had Roy Nelson, whom I believe you could beat for 15 minutes with a baseball bat and still not knock him out...

Clay Guida, a fantastic sportsman, not half-badly spoken when on the mic, but otherwise not quite fully evolved, and 10,000 mph ALL THE TIME.

...more wins for Matt Hughes and John Fitch

and then the title fight, Chael Sonnen vs Anderson Silva.

Sonnen absolutely murdered Silva for the first 4 rounds and half of the 5th. Completely 1-sided fight...then Silva choked him.

I really wanted sonnen to win that fight, but damn if Silva isn't a true champion in the ring.

I can't stand Silva, he's a clown. I was pretty irritated when he managed to pull the win out after getting his ass handed to him non stop for the entire fight.

I truly enjoyed the main card last night.
I was pissed that Sonnen didn't win, and Silva pulled that win out of his ass. But Sonnen couldn't finish him, and that cost him the fight.
Guida is an animal. I always love his fights because he goes balls out for 15 minutes every fight.
Nelson really didn't do a whole lot except for having a steel chin. He did expose some holes in Dos Santos game, including some weak standing defense. Like the commentators said, you have to wonder if nelson's cardio is where it needs to be.
And of course Finch dominated Alves. Alves needs to fight at 185, especially since he has so much trouble making weight.

i really like watching Struve fight. He didnt get a chance to show all his standup like he did against Buentello and man does he suck at getting up. Kinda ruined that fight for me.

Nelson was awesome I love guys like him and cabbage that just keep taking it

Hard to blame Sonnen for not putting Silva away. He beat the FUCK out of him and the lights stayed on. If anything, I thought Sonnen got a little careless in the 5th and just got caught. Created too much space in guard and allowed Silva to get his legs around him.

great fights all-around last night.

Did Guida really give a shout-out to John Scheyer?

Chael is a beast

i dont give a damn

he came straight at silva, and call me crazy but i think he could do it again

Chael just cant avoid a submision to save his life

i disagree

Alves is only gettin older and its gonna be impossible for him to make 170 at all real soon

the problem with him fighting at 185 is that he is a striker...and hes like 5'9"

there is no way in hell he'll find success hed get handily defeated by even the outside contenders in the division just by reach alone, and hed have a hard time doing anything on the ground or in clinch situations etc.

hes in between a rock and a hard place, he couldnt even cut .5 lbs in two hours id say hes dont at welterweight but 185 is just not gonna be a fit for him. Sucks cuz i liek him but its the truth, hes good but his skill is nowhere near the level it needs to be to make up for the size differential hed face

eh, couldn't? or wouldn't?

I'm no weight cutting expert, but Alves was thick as hell in the ring. I find it difficult to believe that he was actually disciplined about the weight cutting.

if youre willign to forfeit 20% of your purse to fitch without trying to cut that .5 pound...its pretty much assumed that it wasnt at all possible

he was 210 on monday morning per his twitter...he "had a good barbeque" and "ill be fine" as he put it

maybe hes used to doin that in his career, but his last couple fights hes been flat out missing weight...hell against matt hughes he was 7 pounds over

i think hes reaching the point now where hes not gonna be able to reach that weight, it aint like boxing where the weight classes are more numerous

you fight guys that step in the ring at around 190 or you move up and fight guys that step in the ring at around 210-215

What about Matt Hughes? I'm not calling a comeback by him or anything, but but the dude straight up choked-out a BJJ Black Belt with a no-name choke.
Its that creepy old man strength he has. Or maybe the corn-fed-fucker strength. Or some super hybrid of the two.

that was awesome i love matt hughes

when he got his first TKO over Renzo I literally jumped outta my chair, and then chokes out Almedia after knocking him flat? OMG

Id watch matt hughes fight over GSP anyday

believe it or not matt hughes is still actually improving his fighting, not stagnating like GSP

makes me wonder about these guys like rampage cant seem to improve at all and look worse and worse each fight, when matt hughes is obviously still enjoying working at new skills.

That's my point. He didn't have the discipline to lose the weight over time early. He was out at a BBQ 40 lbs overweight shortly before the fight. That's flat out being lazy. The guy isn't too big for welterweight, he just isn't disciplined enough to stay at a reasonable weight so he doesn't have to cut a ridiculous amount in a short time period.

true youre right about that

if youve been training properly then theres no way in fuckin hell ud be at 210 pounds even after sitting through 3 BBQs...unless you came down from Rampage weight

cuz you taper naturally as you train and I know this motherfucker had to be trainin hard since john fitch knocked his fuckin ass out in one of the very few finishes in his career last time
