Moving soon. Looking to sell my SUV as a possible alternative to driving it up there. Asking $3100.
1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition; 2wd (rear); 6 cylinder 4.0L SOHC; automatic; 140,500 miles
Good: - Leather - power windows/doors/driver/passenger seat - compass/temp display - aftermarket MP3/CD player - cruise control w/ steering wheel controls - "privacy" (tinted) windows - coded keyless entry on door - fuel/oil/message computer built into center console - dual airbags - ABS - roof rack - tilt wheel - voice recorder/garage door opener built into driver side visor - tow ball on bumper (for light towing, though you may want to get an actual tow hitch) - roomy, great visibility for a large car
Bad: - 15 city, 21 hwy (meh, it's an SUV) - A/C has a slow leak (I'll fill the refrigerant again before I sell it, but it may need either someone who knows how to fix it/fill it or doesn't care) - a couple cosmetic defects (small dent near rear window, white house paint flecks, cracked section on mirrored front bumper part) - very light leak from windshield during heavy rains (has done this since I bought it, thought the guy didn't tell me... asshole. It's nothing major, maybe just a lining replacement or something. It wasn't a huge bother so I never messed with it) - After buying it, I discovered the emergency brakes were rusted, so I disconnected them. I never used them anyway.
Overall: It runs really well, is mechanically sound. Kept up with oil changes while I've had it. The only problem I've had with it was the alternator going out on it a year ago, so I replaced that and it's been trucking fine since. Hasn't had any indications of mechanical/transmission problems either. If you're looking for something that's cheap but will get you around reliably, this is it (at least, that's what I wanted when I bought it and it's served that purpose well). The EB package makes it feel a little nicer/cushier while driving it around. Anyone with a bit of handyman in them may be able to fix the other issues relatively easily and improve the value of the car. Also, just from experience, it's big enough to move/haul shit in. Has served that purpose well, too. And with a tow hitch, should be able to handle any regular towing needs.
Note: I'm still in the process of taking things to Goodwill/selling some larger items. I will have pictures up as soon I get all the final "large vehicle" errands out of the way.
Any questions, just ask. Thanks!

Apparently the AC does work fine. It hadn't leaked out like I thought, it just needed a single can. The pressure wasn't high enough to keep the compressor running. But now it feel awesome.
Anyway, pictures:

She checked; it's legal as long as she doesn't get any money from the transaction. 7/11/2010 8:55:11 PM |

Yeah, she can't accept money for it, but she can do it as long as she doesn't have any monetary gain. But as it turns out, I think I need to keep the explorer anyway. the rest of my family want to drive up and be a part of the move, and they'll need a car to do it in. 7/12/2010 1:17:53 AM |
