oblivion
far cry 3? It has a big thread in here...post apocalypse with a dog
red dead redemption
the zombi game where you're in a mall, release title...lots of replay value I hear

Mass Effect 1 and 2 but they're too short most likely

Those are the big titles that come to mind, just not their names

I highly recommend Mass Effect 1 & 2. Although they aren't pure RPG's (more like RPG + space shooter) they are uber fun.

^^ That.

If you're looking for more traditional RPGs I'd say Dragon Age, or even Olbivion are good choices.

Don't forget Fallout 3 as well

Mass Effect 1 and 2. Fallout 3.

I never considered Dead Rising an RPG, but it sure is fun!

Dead Rising does have very loose RPG aspects in that you can power up and learn new techniques and stuff but it is an action oriented game first and foremost. It is fairly short but there is a lot of replay value. I could just run around the mall all day and find new things to kill zombies with.

RPGs are my favorite.

Tier One: MUST PLAYS and have the most replay ability.

-Mass Effect series, pick up ME 1 first before you play ME 2. The story carries over and it's very worth it, imo.

-Fallout 3 GOY edition- one of the best games ever.

-Oblivion GOY edition: you could easily spend an entire summer working on this game if you don't use any glitches.

Tier two:

Dragon Age
Red Dead

I thought it was awesome and cannot wait for the 3rd

Fable 2 wasn't bad. I probably should have included that in the second tier and bumped Red Dead out.

lost odyssey feels the most traditional and is very well done.

i rather enjoyed enchanted arms too, though it didnt get great ratings.

[Edited on July 9, 2010 at 1:55 PM. Reason : i heard blue dragon was ok and plenty long, though a little repetitive.]

Both Mass Effect games are excellent choices, especially if you set out to "do it all." Completing every single mission, as well as the DLC, takes a substantial amount of time. Plus, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you finish Mass Effect and then see how far the game engine has come in the second one.

Dead Rising is another great game if you have the same "do it all" mindset. Attempting to rescue ALL possible survivors can be damn hard since you have to learn where to be at what time, but it can be done. There are also multiple endings to shoot for.

If you like open exploration with very little substance, challenge, or exciting gameplay (though the stealth mechanics are decent):
-Oblivion, Fallout 3

If you don't mind your RPG also being a shooter:
-Mass Effect 1 & 2

If you like simple hack & slash games with a level-up mechanic and completely pointless open-world choices:
Fable 2

If you don't mind playing a command-based PC RPG on the 360:
Dragon Age Origins

If you don't mind Japanese RPGs:
-Tales of Vesperia
It's easily the best JRPG I've ever played, and (aside from the SNES final fantasies) the only one I liked enough to ever recommend to someone else. The combination of being self-aware enough to avoid most JRPG cliches, combined with a simple but surprisingly deep combat system that is active rather than turn-based, plus fairly well-written character interaction. It starts off a bit slow, but mostly just because your party is still weak. It picks up about 2/3 of the way through the first act, and it stays entertaining for a long time (there are 3 acts, and each one can easily last 20 hours or more).

Dragon Age is one of the best RPG's of the past decade but I probably wouldn't play it on xbox.

PC or nothing.

How are you going to say ME1 and ME2 are too short, but then advocate RDR which is probably 10% the length of either of the ME games?
