91 town car, won't shift back into park or reverse it's tough to push a 6000lb vehicle to back up...anyway.

The shifter on the column is really loose and I'm not sure what the fix is. I tried to take the cover off of the column, but the ignition is blocking me from removing the cover. I HATE dealing with column stuff due to the air bag and electronics. Anyone come across this problem before, or willing to help me fix it? It still starts if I can find neutral while messing with the shifter and it drives fine.

I just need it to last about another year til I get a new car.

There should be a hole in the bottom cover on the right side of the ignition, if you put a pick or something else semi long and straight in there and turn you ignition to the run position you can pull the key cylinder out, so you can pull the top cover off.
