The commercials didn't look horrible, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The pilot was decent. Anybody else checked this out?

It's ok I guess. I don't foresee it lasting more than one season though. It's kind of a a toned down bastardized X-Files.

I want to have high hopes for this show, but I don't. My reason for this is that Sci-Fi Channel SyFy--home of Dinocroc vs. Supergator and the like--would fuck up a wet dream.

Still, I'm giving this show some time. I mean, it hasn't been awful, but it hasn't been very good, either. I'm hoping that the characters will find their voices and stories will flow better--and that the "witty" banter will stop sounding so forced.

as they have done with the Dresden Files, Farscape, and countless others that were good but failed to meet the giant monster B movie/tv requirements

SyFy has some awful shit on it, but they have some damn good TV series. Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, the newest Stargate and Warehouse 13 are all pretty good.

I don't agree that any part of BSG was "awful." I didn't like how it ended but it wasn't anywhere near enough for me to hate on the two final seasons.

It went downhill some, but it was pretty damn good. And SGU is a really good re-imagining of sorts of the SG universe. Atlantis was okay, but it pretty much just took the SG-1 formula and moved in into another universe. SGU breaks from that shit totally.

And half of my summer DVRing is SyFy. Of the 4 decent shows on now (Warehouse 13, Eureka, Friday Night Lights & Psych), 2 of them are SyFy originals. I still think the new name is ghey though

The early episodes of SGU were less than spectacular as they built the show up. They spent way too long introducing everything. Toward the end of the season though it really picked up the pace to being enjoyable. I'm looking forward to more episodes as SGU is a completely new take on the SG paradigm. It's nothing like SG1 or SGA and was never intended to be.

Also the last episode of Haven still is kinda "meh" to me. It was alright but I'm still standing by my "bastardized X-Files" statement from earlier. Yes there's weird paranormal stuff going on in this show, but it's just relatively boring. They don't try to hide anything; there's no mystery or shock factor. You can figure out in the first 1/4 of the show what's going on and then the remaining is just them trying to catch the culprit.

wow this show has lasted 5 seasons

I quit watching this show because it was getting too cheesy. However, I noticed over the weekend that Haven seasons 1-4 is on Netflix so I binge watched season 4. This show loves to never completely explain anything that is happening in the story. For whatever stupid reason, I keep watching hoping they will.

Season 5 starts Sep 11, 10pm.
