welp no need to sell everything with my new job, in fact i may start racing sometime in the near future since i won't work weekends.

I sold my transponder but can get another.

old thread dead............

I may overhaul my whole setup and get a new chassis and motors. I think I will just hold on to most of my stuff and pass it down to mini me nephew......just remove a few cells from batteries to slow the stuff down until he can drive it.

nitro tc3 may be sold once i determine if i will ever drive at again. but for now i'm not gonna be hurting for money so there ya go.

There is another hobby store in triangle town center, hi-tech hobbies. Got offered a job there, might do it a few weekends a month fixing stuff for customers. The owner told me he is opening another one near crabtree, not sure exactly where that would be. Should be a decent spot since HobbyMasters used to be close to there

but ToyTown in FV gets my vote for best in the area in terms of parts on hand and they own a dirt track. with that said I might race offroad............ sucks investing time and money into a class that doesn't survive. Rosewood in Goldsboro i still alive and kicking and actually doing quite well. and they race year round since they have a carpet track.

Just got to keep it simple with ONE car this time around!

Dude. I'm thinking about getting back into RC myself.

I used to race 1/10 electric 2wd offroad buggies and stadium trucks at most every track in NC/Virginia.

It's been far too long.

Looks like they only run nitro offroad at Toytown track...any interest in electric offroad?

i visited the store and they said that electric short course trucks are the largest class

Traxxas Slash, associated sc10, etc so i might get into that

Man, they didnt have that class back when I was racing in the late 90's early 2000's.

I really want to get back into this...but not necessarily on board with racing nitro classes.

Here is a list of trucks you can get, and they are pretty cheap. Stock motor, ready to run is a good place to start:

Associated SC10
Traxxas Slash
HPI Blitz
Losi Strike http://www.losi.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB0105 is real cheap to get into!

I might build an associated sc10 kit. worst case scenario i will give it to my nephew. Still the lure of onroad racing at Rosewood still calls to me. But that gets real expensive and I would need a new car first anyway.

I hate RTR. I'm much too picky so I'll definitely be building one up myself

I'll have to check into these.

I had 2 TC4's a while back and they were a blast, but yeah that TC's are way too expensive to be fast. I like offroad because it's much more about the driver than how much voltage you have.

Back when I raced offroad, I had 2 XXXBK2's, a XXXT, a B3, & a T3. I got out of the sport RIGHT before brushless became the new fad.

I'd rate these just a little bit above "children's toys"

stopped by hanagar 18 hobbies today and chatted with the owner. They run at an office park in Regency on Sunday afternoons. Basically cookout and run for four hours or so, just for fun, no cost, no rules, which I like.

Meet at the shop on Kildaire Farm Rd in Cary at noonish on Sunday and then ride over there. I won't be able to this Sunday, but next week on I plan on doing this.

http://hangar18hobbies.com/default.aspx

I live closer to there, like 2 miles away, then I do to Fuquay/Toy Town, but they run Friday nights.

Pretty sure I've decided to pull the trigger on a Losi 8ight 2.0...or maybe just a 1.0.

Capefear raceway looks like a pretty nice track, and it looks like they have quite a good crowd of racers.

My problem in the past is that every track I raced at ended up shutting down after a year or so.

Or maybe I'll go with the 1/8 electric buggy class...I'd much prefer electric. They seem to have decent turnout in this class at their races too...

I just picked up a Losi 8ight 1.0 nitro lot that I'm planning on converting to electric.

Lot comes with enough stuff to build probably 3 buggies...should be pretty sweet. I'll likely pick up the parts to convert this to a 2.0 while I'm at it.

Also, got a Hyperion EOS0606i Lipo Charger, and an "old school" Futaba 3PDF radio...

Now, I just need to pick up a couple Lipo's, and a ESC/motor...

My racing setup is coming together.

I picked up 2 Turnigy 4.5 4S1P 30C lipo packs from HobbyKing.com

Also got a new Mamba Monster Max v3 ESC and a Mamba 2200kv motor.

I think i'm set to run with the big boys out at Cape Fear Raceway in Holly Springs now...went out there this past weekend and the competition was pretty tight...good turnout for 1/8 nitro, although there werent any 1/8 electric buggies there.

Also found there's a new indoor offroad track in Greensboro, just off the highway 40 exit for Lee St. Much smaller track, perfect for 1/10 scale if anyone's into that. I'm going to pick up a 1/10 car/truck to run out there on days it's too hot/cold to run outdoor at Cape Fear.

I hear ya man. I doubt i'll do much with TC's, but maybe i'll throw some slicks on the 8ight and come out for some laps with you guys, haha.

Finishing up my 8ight-E conversion tonight.

Should be pulling wheelies at the squeeze of the trigger. Gonna have to limit the ESC to 70% or so to even keep it on the track.

ran at fuquay tractor supply on friday night. going to cary this afternoon to run with those guys for the first time. my tc4 actually seems to be doing ok. I looked over my nitro tc3 and will buy some fuel at some point this week to see if i can get it to run.

although it will be hot as heck outside so tuning the ntc3 in anger may not be the best idea........

i will probably sell it, but need to know how its running first. i want to go brushless with my tc4 and just be done with it!

the guys that run at regency/ hangar 18 crowd are all pretty much electric. They have some bad to the bone 1/8 buggies that are lipo/brushless........and beat them up pretty good. Plus some good food and a very laid back atmosphere. Basically we just setup an oval layout and try to match up different cars that could run together. There are a few electric TCs.

They also put up a lot of ramps and jump from a parking lot into an open field. so if you like bashing its a good place to go.

I cooked my motor in my tc4 with too much gearing and the heat outside.......but that motor probably had close to 50+ runs in it so I'm ok with that.

I have more, but it might be time to save $$ for brushless setup vs buying another brushed motor.......

I wonder what that brushless setup would be like in a B4 or XXXCR or something like that?

Threads like this make me wish I still lived in raleigh. I recently sold my t-maxx and my losi buggies because they were just rotting in the garage. Don't know anyone down here that drives, and there isn't even a hobby store in 50 miles.

Well, Raleigh's not much better off.

The only hobby shop choices are Hangar 18 Hobbies in Cary, and Toytown in Fuquay.

Other than that, you're screwed. Only offroad track within an hour drive is in Holly Springs.

Raced out at Cape Fear Raceway today.

Got my ass handed to me in 1/8 E buggy. There's some stiff competition out there...and I'm just learning how to drive 1/8 scale. My buggy had WAY WAY WAY WAYYYY too much power and I couldnt hardly keep it on the track.

Oh absolutely. I got faster as the day went on, and pulled a few respectable laps. I'll be giving them a run for their money before long. I'm just used to driving 1/10 2wd buggies with much less power.

The SC classes are really popular. They have a sportsman and a pro class. Great turnout yesterday...I'm even thinking about picking one up to race a 2nd class.

OK soooooooo.................that shop won't last past Christmas. All they sell is the Chinese brands like Red-something-or-another/excel hobby knock offs of HPI cars and trucks. Granted, they sell the helicopters too, and the parts for all the cars and trucks. Not worth a trip to go to by any means.

You don't have Horizon Hobby or Great Planes as a vendor(s), you don't have a hobby shop. Period.

Toy Town in Fuquay still has the most stuff at the ready when you walk in.

The shop in Garner across from Wal-Mart in the garden supply store does have some momentum going, and they run the hobby shop as a side business, so they should be around.

Hangar 18 I'm a customer, buy they have yet to really impress me, but they are learning the business. They have a decent selection of parts, bodies, and RTRs and also do the gaming stuff, really try to pick up where Hobby Masters left off.

clutch appears to be worn out on the ntc3.'

ordered some cheap 10x1 motors from team associated on closeout for my tc4

will get some lipos eventually. I might cut up some of my 6 cell packs and make some 7 cells in the mean time.

Trying to be frugal as possible this time around in the hobby

^nice! You still running with the hangar 18 guys?

I raced my 8ight-E again yesterday at Cape Fear Raceway. I'm finally starting to turn some decent laps...qualified 4th for the main, but ended up in 6th place. I got nervous as hell haha.

I'm running 4S 5000mah Lipos with a 2200kv motor and my buggy was too fast. I had to limit my ESC to 80% and now i'm much more consistent. I'm still able to clear every triple out at the track too!

You need to come out sometime man. I talked them into having a non competitive "run what ya brung" class...so basically you can run anything you want. You still have a B3 right?

i have the b3.........and this gives me an excuse to put electronics back in it.

i am going out of town this sat but after that i should really go down to that track

Waiting on the 10 turn motors to arrive this week until i drive. The tc4 has no motor right now, the nitro tc3 needs work, and the b3 has no electronics in it

OK the 5700kv mamba with a 5000 40c lipo is just stupid fast. I mean I can't go 100% throttle with it even. It will actually smoke the tires too. No joke.

I can't believe how awesome this is. Anyone want to buy my nitro tc3?? I see no reason to dick around with it anymore. Its going on craigslist this weekend, some redneck will buy it

Yeah, that's how I feel about my 1/8 buggy with 2200kv motor and 30C 4S Lipos. STUPID fast. I had to turn my esc down to 70% to actually race because it was just uncontrollable on the track.
