So last year just before last final before graduation, my laptop with my all my class notes crashed. Some how it lost a boot sequence file. I put it down and didn't bother trying to fix it for more or less a year.
Today I ran system recovery and reformated the hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP. Everything went fine until it tried to configure the mouse and keyboard (which were already working at the time and are not now). It froze, but i figured it was just taking a long time (like the warning box said it would) and just went to work. I got home, it was still on that screen so I turned it off and back on. Now it is froze at a box that just identifies it as: Windows XP Setup, (windows logo), please wait.
So long story short, I want to know: 1. Can I run system recovery again and fix it if I can regain controll of my keyboard?
and 2. How do I regain controll of my keyboard? 7/12/2010 10:51:27 PM |

First off, how old is the laptop? And how much is it worth (real market value)? Answer those questions and you might have an answer. 7/13/2010 11:02:14 AM |

Remove the power source from the laptop (unplug, remove the battery). Try again.

I finally got windows set up today but I can't get online to finish updating drivers and everything else because it can't start my network card. Error Code 10... Since the thing is 5 years old, I am highly tempted to just get a new, lighter one (this one is a 17in wide screen weighing almost 15lbs). 7/13/2010 8:56:14 PM |

It is time to get a new laptop when the screen dimensions are almost 1:1 with the weight.
Besides, "Error Code 10" means a network card capacitor has short-circuited the adapter and the driver can't solder a new connection to bridge the failed socket. 7/13/2010 11:21:55 PM |
