Some YouTube videos were uploaded at a super-high resolution, above even 1080p; for example this one was uploaded at 4096p: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0m1XmvBey8
I have found a solution for downloading YouTube videos that is better than sites like KeepVid and Clipnabber, Firefox extensions like DownThemAll, or external stream rippers like Replay Media Classic (although all of those things still have their uses); it is this userscript, "Download YouTube Videos as MP4": http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/25105
Almost any modern browser can use this script!
If you have Internet Explorer 6 or later, get IE7Pro and add the userscript; you may need to download it first. If you have Firefox or a browser based on it, like SeaMonkey or Flock 2, get GreaseMonkey and add the userscript by clicking the Install button on that page. If you have Chromium or a browser based on it, like Chrome, SRWare Iron, or the Flock 3 Beta, click the Install button on that page and the userscript will be installed as if it were an extension. If you have Safari on the Mac, install GreaseKit, download the userscript, and put it in the GreaseKit userscripts directory. If you have Opera, define a User JavaScript folder and then download the userscript and put it in there; you don't even need to restart Opera for the script to become active. 7/13/2010 4:47:59 PM |

Too bad it doesn't work for pr0n sites. 7/13/2010 5:03:18 PM |

yeah...for that I'd recommend Replay Media Catcher
I remember once finding a way to use it without paying for it 7/13/2010 5:30:39 PM |

I mean I could probably re-write it
but fuck all that 7/13/2010 5:33:10 PM |

it would be very hard IMO, the script relies on some peculiar properties of YouTube
but you can also try this UserJS in Opera: http://github.com/guinunez/getVideo it might work in the other browsers too 7/13/2010 5:53:51 PM |

Any way to easily rip just the audio from youtube? I could pull it from the downloaded video but something easier would be nice. 7/13/2010 8:05:21 PM |

^ I used to have an application that did it, and worked really well
Now I just use whichever one of those sites out there that comes up first in the google search. 7/13/2010 8:17:46 PM |

I tried that Any Video Converter Pro and it converts them to .flv files no matter what I do. I don't see any way to pull just the audio. 7/13/2010 9:04:51 PM |

I believe the FLV is just the audio portion
I know you get something like that when you open the original FLV in 7-zip 7/13/2010 9:11:07 PM |

When I run that file it opens adobe media player and plays the video. 7/13/2010 9:17:16 PM |

get Media Player Classic via Real Alternative, foo: http://www.codecguide.com/download_real.htm
anyway try my idea, open the FLV file as an archive in 7-zip, and then try extracting the files inside 7/13/2010 9:25:59 PM |

then you aren't doing it right. it can convert anything to anything. it may download the .flv first, but it can also convert it to anything you want in one step for you.. including an audio only format
