Could be among the best ever
Josh Johnson 10-3, 1.62 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, .207 BAA, 130 K
Roy Halladay 10-7, 2.19 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .246 BAA, 128 K
Adam Wainwright 14-5, 2.02 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, .214 BAA, 130 K
Ubaldo Jimenez 15-1, 2.20 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, .198 BAA, 11K
and you can't count out the 2 time reigning winner
Tim Lincecum 10-4, 2.94 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, .230 BAA, 136 K
You have to think Jimenez is the leader in the clubhouse, because we know the voters jack off to wins. Personally, I think Johnson is having the best season thus far. My pick to win, however, is Wainwright. Good team and he's historically a better second half pitcher.

Right
But this thread is about speculation and year end totals, and if each guy stays healthy, they have 14-15 starts left

Provided Uggla and Cantu aren't traded costing JJ even more run support I think he can pull it out. Lincecum won last year with what, 15 wins?

Seriously?
You're going to have a NL Cy Young thread and not have league/park adjust ERA?
Someone post some ERA+ so I can actually decide... 7/18/2010 4:00:41 PM |

Wainwright just gave up 0 R for the second straight start, dropping his ERA under 2 (second place, only 0.02 behind JJ) and tying him with Ubaldo for the lead in wins. I think he's gotta be the front runner at this point.
He's also now 2nd in IP, 3rd in Ks, and 1st in WHIP.

As long as his teammate Carpenter doesn't sneak back into the race and steal votes. Carp is 13-3 with an ERA under 3 as well now. Remember Wainwright had the most first place votes last year and came in third. 8/12/2010 3:11:42 AM |

my guess would be either hudson or more likely, ubaldo. i don't know that they'd like carpenter or wainwright with the team doing so bad. Losses look bad, so with neither of Huddy or Ubaldo in double digits right now and not really threatening before the year is up, that's my guess. if huddy can take something like 4 or 5 of his last 6ish starts, then he might take it, but ubaldo might just win it from pure ignorance. i'd have a tough time voting for a 17-10 pitcher over a 19-7. 9/6/2010 3:00:53 AM |

See that's another thing I hate....when it comes to individual awards like MVP and CY, why does it matter how good the team is?
Miguel Cabrera is a way better player this year than Mark Teixiera.
Felix Hernandez is hands down the best pitcher in the AL but he won't sniff the award because he is 11-10 on a team with Russell Branyan as the best hitter. 9/6/2010 3:19:32 AM |
