These ass clowns have reached NC (Cary more specifically). I saw them yesterday in the Harris Teeter parking lot trying to dupe people. Most people have enough common sense to know this is a scam but for the few gullible ones, watch out.

Apparently, this is a scam being done all over the US and Canada.

Not really a scam. They ask for your money and you give it to them. The actual "value" of the speakers(whatever that means) is irrelevant. They even give you a phone number you can call to verify the manufacturers suggested retail price. I'd say they're just living the American dream.
I used to talk to the guy at the fairgrounds that sells them. He told me some of his secrets to spotting the suckers and setting the initial asking price.
I've got a set of Dogg Digital Audio(White Van) speakers I picked up at a yardsale for $10. The midrange blew out pretty easy, but once I replaced those they sound okay. 7/22/2010 11:38:29 AM

Let's see, soliciting and operating without a city business license. Maybe even tax evasion, but that's about it. You could be charged with the same things for selling girl scout cookies.
Dick cops might also seize their merchandise on suspicion of it being stolen...but it's not. They buy these things for about $50 a set at a warehouse over in Cary. If they happen to have a trademark name on them they could get them for counterfeit goods, but usually they have straight-from-taiwan names like "Digital Audio" or something similarly meaningless.

It's just suckers buying overpriced gear. Not so much different than buying overpriced shit anywhere else (like at a yardsale).

So lying about the value of something and making up a completely FALSE storyline as a sales pitch specifically to take advantage of people's ignorant knowledge of a consumer product is your idea of the American dream?

haha omg - every time I see this, I laugh.
Last summer, I bought a brand new unopened iPhone at a yard sale in Rochester, NY for $25. The chick was my age and said her dad won it at a work party and didn't have ATT so she tried putting it on ebay and it didn't sell so she sold it to me for $25. I put it on eBay and sold it for $355 (no problem ).... so I told a coworker about this (a guy who was 23 at the time) and he was amazed.
A few weeks later, he runs in to the office and said he had been in the Best Buy parking lot when some guys in a white van approached him about some "awesome brand new speakers, blah blah blah". In any case, he bought speakers "that retailed for more than $3000 for $220" and he wanted me to sell them for him and I could make commission... I lol'd my ass off. 7/22/2010 12:09:42 PM

^ disagree you can't lie about your product selling fake diamonds as real diamonds, for example, is fucking wrong, even though the person who buys them is obviously an idiot that's the objection I have here...I think it is wrong to lie about your product and thereby cheat the stupid ] 7/22/2010 12:19:40 PM

Yeah I saw it but what these guys are doing is a bit worse. Monster cables are hyped by a ton more manufacturers than Best Buy and I use $6 HDMI cables from Monoprice and cannot tell the difference. So whether they are actually better or not is so hard to tell that it doesn't warrant the markup.
However, there is a huge difference between Monster cables being marked up to $100 vs creating a fake story about the warehouse sending too many units or whatever ridiculous skit they go through, then following it with stating that the speakers ACTUALLY SELL FOR $3000 (which is a complete lie) and then act like they are cutting you a deal by giving them to you for $200. Its shady as shit. That is a scam, plain and simple.

i'm sorry but if you are stupid enough to buy a consumer electronic out of the back of an unmarked white van, you deserve to be scammed.
i don't care if they tell you the speakers will give you a blowjob and then cook you breakfast...
or that the sugg retail price is $3000
you are buying shit out of a van
you deserved to get scammed....
not to mention that most of the time these people buy these speakers to turn around and try to scam someone else by selling them on TWW or Ebay or Craigslist.... 7/22/2010 12:24:01 PM

I have a set of Dogg Digital Audio speakers in better than new condition. These retail for $3000 but I'll let TWW have them for just $100. My wife is going to be pissed if I bring these things home. Can't you help me out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Speaking of which, I fucking love it when grown men pretend to be subject to their wife's whims when purchasing something. "Let me run that by my wife" "My wife will be so pissed as it is, can't you give me a break?" "My wife says I can't go over $100" It's the most emasculating bargaining ploy in the world. If I give you a discount it is entirely because I pity your miserable existence.
