I'm trying to setup my Xbox to my tv, which is HDMI 1.3 compatible. I'm using an 1.3b HDMI cable, but the TV isn't recognizing the 360S at all. Now, I figured this would be a simple plug and play thing. I've even tried using another 1.3b cable that I know works perfectly fine, and still nothing. Do I have to buy the Microsoft Xbox HDMI cable to get this to work? What's the deal here?

Standard Def. AV connects just fine.

My old Sony had to have the HDMI literally turned on in order to work.

HDMI Connection And It Doesn't Work.


If you have attached your Playstation 3 to your Samsung TV using HDMI, and you get distortion or no picture, there are two probable causes:

* The Playstation 3's output is set to 480i.
* The Playstation 3's output is set to 1080p, and your TV does not accept 1080p through its HDMI connection.

Both causes are discussed below.
The Playstation's Output is Set To 480i

HDMI connections do not accept 480i signals. Follow the directions in your PS3 manual to change the output to 480p, 720p, 1080i, or (for many but not all Samsung TVs), 1080p. See below.
The Playstation 3's Output is Set to 1080p

If your Playstation 3 is outputting a 1080p signal and the HDMI connector on your TV is not compatible with 1080p, you will get distortion or no picture.

no, it's not a new 3D tv.

There's nothing on the TV menu that requires me to turn on the HDMI. It's all auto-detect, no manual override.

I can't set the HD connection on the Xbox (ie: 780i/p or 1080i/p) If I plug in the standard AV cable, the HDMI port is blocked and the xbox doesn't allow me to select the HD menu settings.

Maybe I need to get that Xbox HDAV cable. I'm guessing the TV is setup to be 1080p component only, and the HDMI are 1080i, which would make sense as why my cable box works but not the xbox.

thats a COMPOSITE cable, not a COMPONENT cable.

You need to unplug the composite cable, turn off xbox, plug in HDMI, turn on xbox, turn on tv.

You may need to enable HDMI output (1080p) in the settings on the xbox first (while connected with the standard def av cable)

This worked, minus I also disconnected the power supply after the xbox was turned off.

Its not really retarded. I cant believe they still ship the new 360's with ONLY a fucking composite cable.

And it would make sense to me too that if you have BOTH cables plugged in, the xbox would try to use the better connection (HDMI). But it won't. It always defaults to the AV port first. Definitely not the most intuitive thing in the world.
