I am definitely going to get satellite radio. Which do I choose? Sirius has playboy and stern, what does XM have?

Which is better AND why?

you still have to choose which one you want to subscribe to unless if you get the combo package for more money.

playboy radio sucks.

if you like stern get sirius. if you like O&A get xm.

if you want baseball or the acc get xm
if you want football or the other big conferences get sirius

i've had both and listen to both quite a bit still. but i have sirius in my truck. i've never needed the ACC because i live in ACC country and can hear almost any game from the big 4 whenever.

^SEC and Big East are XM too

I have XM and I prefer it over sirius (and if you still want stern with XM, you can pay extra to get it- but I prefer O&A myself, so I don't get that)

Opie and Anthony. They are a NYC based shock jock crew kinda like Stern. Jimy Norton is, by far, the best part of the show IMO. I listened to them when I first got XM but Stern is the way to go. I got the crossover package for two years when it first came out so I have it at like half the price it is now. I get all major sports, all major conferences and Stern.

If I get the Sirius with best of XM I get stern and college sports right?

http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/CachedPage&c=ChannelLineup&cid=1218563499691

it says they have a bunch of play by play with NHL, MLB and more. does this include college sports?

During commercials on Stern I used to just click channel down and the Playboy morning show actually wasn't really that bad. Andrea Lowell and that dude from Syracuse are actually pretty funny...

I would agree with this. But if you are choosing Sirius only because of Stern, keep in mind that he only has 5 more months left on his contract. So you might want to only do a 6 month subscription until he decides what he wants to do.

I have been an avid listener since he came to Sirius. And before that I followed his show on E. It is completely fact that his contract ends the beginning of January. Whether he will retire, sign a new contract with Sirius, or go somewhere else is anyone's guess at this point.

He seems to be leading the listeners to believe that he wants to retire. But he has been saying that for years, it's kind of part of his schtick. My opinion is that he will still be on the radio in some capacity, but I'm not sure it will be on Sirius. I can pretty much guarantee he would never go back to terrestrial radio, though.

Haha, no it's not...

He's going to re-up with Sirius IMO. Maybe a reduced schedule or not an early morning show. Probably like a 7am to 11am type of time slot...

Nailed it.

Been with Sirius for the last 5 years (for Stern). If I could start over today I would get XM and pay the extra few dollars to get Howard.

I am looking into getting a new radio so I will have to make this decision as well. Taking Howard out of the equation, I still love having the NFL coverage. Plus the NASCAR In-Car coverage is pretty sweet. And like a previous poster stated, I can get pretty much all NCSU games on a local radio station if I need to. I will most likely stick with Sirius.

or Traaaaaaaaaaadio?

Btw a friend of mine called to cancel his subscription (Sirius) and they talked him out of it by giving him a year's subscription at $4 a month with a free voucher for their latest radio when it comes out in a few weeks. I might have to "cancel" tonight.

^^^ It works. The last time my subscription ran out they charged my card automatically $95 for a 6 month renewal. I called up, raised holy hell, had them reverse the charge, then canceled. They called me back the next day and gave me 6 months for $20.

The music is 100% commercial free. Shows like Stern have a few commercials. He averages about 6 or 7 minutes of commercials for every hour on the air. Compared to commercials every 7 or 10 minutes on terrestrial radio. Stuff like CNN and Fox News have commercials.

Yeah there are a lot more commercials than I expected. Kind of sucks actually.

I thought I was paying so that they didnt need commercials. whatever, content is better and more reliable. wish it didnt cost as much of course

there are some music channels, on XM at least, that have commercials, as marked in the channel name by "CM" at the end of the name. I've never taken the time to see exactly what the deal with these channels are but I think they are required to be on there as some kind of anti-trust thing, clearchannel owns some channels on XM.

XM doesn't promote or advertise those channels in any way though, other than having them on channel listing guides. you can't even listen to them online.

despite all that I like those channels more when they don't have commercials on because some of these XM channels are putting WAY TOO MUCH FUCKING TALK into their music channels.

the highway (16) country channel might as well be a commercial channel as much shit as they put on there... they hardly ever go from one song straight into another, you have to be reminded the service and channel you are listening to, MULTIPLE TIMES, in case you had no fucking idea you were listening to it... i don't give a shit about celeb news, nor do i want callers with random stories taking a minute or two between songs.

today they had that guy that walked from nashville to phoenix to raise awareness about the foster system or something, which is fine, that's cool that he stopped by and they put him on, but the interview went on for like 15 minutes, no music. cmon.

20 on 20 (which is Hits 1 when there isn't a countdown going on, and is actually better to listen to then when the countdown is going on and it's an XM-only station... less promos) and The Pulse aren't much better either.

am i the only one that this annoys?

^^no, i too am annoyed by most of those issues as well. I completely agree, the highway isn't much better than your average FM country station.

Some stations like the pulse or the spectrum it really depends on the DJ as to how much talk you're going to get. Carol Miller who has a block on the spectrum, the pulse, and maybe the loft is probably the worst at this.
