ok my HTC Mogul is finally starting to live on its last leg..........I'm on the SERO plan and I'm assuming staying on it vs going to the new plan is still the best route

if so, what's the best smartphone that I can upgrade to that's still allowed on SERO? Is it still only the Palm Pre and HTC TP2?

I was told the Pre wasn't allowed when I asked back in December. But that may have changed since then as it's not the hot new thing anymore.

TP2 is a pretty nice phone, about as good as you're going to get for a Windows Mobile device, unless it's been superseded since the end of last year. The market seems to be slowing down for WM devices so I imagine that would still be the case.

just read a rumor that starting Oct 1, Android phones will be allowed on SERO with a $10/month surcharge.....if true, is it worth waiting to get Andriod over HTC Touch Pro 2?

People are still asking $200 for TP2 on craigslist, crazy

I never understood why the SERO plan was so crippled when it came to what phones you could pick. Is it just because so many people who aren't really technically eligible end up finding ways to sneak themselves into the program?

At this point, the TP2 is still the best device you can activate on SERO. If the android rumor becomes true that will open up some doors.

what sero plan are you on right now? i can't believe how many customers i've talked to who don't want to give up their sero plan only to look at their bill and realize they are paying more or close to what the current plans are.

lol. show me a FF500 (500 anytime, unlimited everything else) comparable plan for 35.00 after taxes.

I was on the FF1250 for about 56.00 after taxes. The only way I came out remotely ahead with my new configuration was to add my brother to a family share plan and add a 25% employee discount. The people who are sticking with SERO are the ones that have FF500 and are grandfathered in to an added discount and/or perk(s) they finagled before Ensemble. I actually have a rogue add-a-line that I pay literally 0.00/month for. If I make a call during the day it's .40c/minute but I have everything else that a normal plan does. 7pm N/W, Unlimited Text and Data and Mobile2Mobile.

You're probably confusing SERO with Everything Plus.

@OP. If you can find a really good deal on a TouchPro you may have some luck adding insurance to it and eventually finding a rep that will let you choose another device on the WEL list. It takes soem work but you can advance exchange a TP for a TP2. If you're into flashing roms, then it's actually not that terrible of a device anyway and a considerable upgrade from the Mogul. The TP2 is pretty damn amazing with a custom rom though.

I sold my TP2 for 175 to my roommate in June, but he's eligible for an Evo this month. How much are you looking to spend on one?

I don't really want to drop more than $150 on a used HTC TP2 esp if it's worth waiting for an Android after October instead

My total bill is $42/month for FF1250 (1250 anytime, unlimited everything else) so not sure switching to Everything Plus is worth it.

it wasn't even worth it for me to switch my full price FF1250 to EPRP, but if you ever do switch you can definitely get some money for transferring liability on that plan.

I will talk to him and see what his plans are. It was an unused refurbished unit in May, now it may have few signs of cosmetic damage, but nothing on the screen. I was supposed to sell his Palm Pre too and that thing is still sitting in the box lol.

SERO for life!

i'm on the FF500 plan and i have the TP2

it's the best phone you can get on SERO right now, but it's already a year behind the DROID phones and the Evo. It's still a good phone though, but you're going to want to do some minor mods to streamline it since the stock ROM is kinda bloated.

^This

FF500 plus insurance costs me $41.xx per month. I've gone over on daytime minutes exactly once in almost 3 years, so 500 is fine and dandy for me, and show me any other plan that gives you unlimited data and unlimited text for $35. Plus I'm long since month to month so I'm not locked up should anything better come along or my circumstances change. Even though I'd like to get away from windows mobile in the longer term, since I'm reasonably happy with my TP2 it's not enough of an inducement to get me to move. If they do allow Android for +10 I'd consider it, though 120/yr is a decent amount of change plus the fact that I'd have to lay out the initial cash for an evo.

I doubt they would allow the Evo with just one 10.00/month buyup.

^Wishful thinking?

The fact of the matter is that I'm cheap enough so that even the promise of a shiny new android phone wouldn't be enough to get me to lay any more cash out. I've got enough bills as it stands.

You could put a droid on page plus cellular (if you bought one at full retail from verizon, alltel, or us cellular/or used etc) and have 1200 mins, 1200 text, and 50mb of data for $29.99 a month. (you will need wifi to use data over $50mb or pay by the mb)

That is the best jew deal ever. I think you can buy additional megabytes if run out as well.

hadn't heard about the $10 surcharge for android phones on SERO until today but after doing some reading it seems like its a done deal. Apparently if you get the EVO you'll need to pay the $10 phone charge as well as the $10 4G charge.

If this is true I can finally get rid or my BB Curve

Android phones def. will not work on SERO F/F-they all require the EPRP. BB will work on SERO + $10 BIS up to the Tour, but the Curve 8530 and Bold require the EPRP.

Pretty sure that everyone is referring to the rumor that very soonish they will be allowed on F/F. We know that currently EPRP is required.

Yea, think most people are more than willing to pay an extra $10 on an already ridiculously cheap plan to get an up to date phone

I actually found that ED1500 w/25% discount is the cheapest route with two lines.

Oops-wasn't paying attention.

I don't know how this will affect legacy SERO plans, but I got this email a few days ago about SWAC (Advantage Club) which are nearly identical to legacy SERO plans:

Quote :
"Effective with the start of October bill periods, these subscribers will be migrated to new “Wireless Advantage Premium” rate plans, costing $10 more per month. The select smartphones that will require a Wireless Advantage Premium rate plan include: HTC Hero with Google, Samsung Moment with Google, Palm® Pre, Palm Pixi, Samsung Instinct®, Samsung Instinct s30, Samsung Instinct HD, Samsung Intercept, HTC EVO 4G (when available), Samsung Epic 4G (when available) and other future smartphone devices as available."

Current advantage club rate plan is 500 min F/F for $20/month for regular phones and $30/month for Blackberry phones.

Are those the demo lines that third party vendors get so that they can show off the handsets?

Anyone willing to sell their old SERO or F&F plan for 2 lines? I'll pay for just the plan, more if you have decent phones you want to sell too.
