My road bike was stolen from Centennial Campus in the Venture Center parking deck sometime between last Saturday night and Monday morning. It's a big 2005 Trek 1500 with a Selle Italia leather seat and Shimano PD-M324 pedals (flat on one side, clips on the other)

$250 reward

Three things:

Why would you leave a nice bike like that in a parking deck for that period of time??

2: Does the parking deck have any cameras? Might want to check with campus security.

3: Good luck. Nice bike, hope you get it back.

Be prepared for the flood of thread crappers. It wasn't even worth posting here when a bicycle was stolen FROM MY LIVING ROOM!

On a serious note, I know the feeling. First day I moved into my new house my bike was stolen by a... you guessed it -> a black kid in the neighborhood. Good thing was that it was a Walmart bike.

At least this waste of space was thrown off the football team months before he stole my bike, so he was already fucked. Not too much I could do to make it worse for him.

The apartment next to me has a bunch of bikes out front and several of them are spray painted black. Something tells me they didn't do that for aesthetics.

Yeah, pretty much what Jbrick said.

Did you have a cable lock on it, or a solid U-lock or uncuttable chain? I see tons of kids get their nice Trek
and Specialized bikes jacked around Duke because they lock up their $600-800 bike
with a $10 cable.

+1 on never leaving your bike locked up overnight somewhere- I've known people
to lose wheelsets that way.

You may want to consider a crappier beater bike in the future- something that looks ridiculous
and/or heavy.

That being said, if it comes to Durham somehow, we'll look out for it at the co-op.

I work in the building about 50 ft from the bike rack. There were coworkers working in the building through the weekend. Turns out a coworkers car was also broken into during the same period. Obviously it was a bad choice to leave it there now, though we hadn't had a single bike stolen from that rack in the 3 years I've been there. Thanks, everyone, for keeping an eye out for it.

I've never even owned a bike worth $250. why would anyone leave a bike that expensive on campus for any extended period of time? get you a damn huffy and ride that to campus.

Do let campus police know. They recovered several hundred dollars worth of stuff that was stolen from my car, found alongside some other loosely-related stolen stuff in a pawn shop. If they hadn't known about my stuff they wouldn't have even given it a second thought. The pawn shop owner obviously did not run the serials because I reported them the day the stuff was discovered missing, and they were left intact.

Wrong, people in the lounge are pretty sympathetic to such causes. The problem is YOU! No one likes you because you are a waste of matter. That and you really do put the simple in simpleton.

Strange turn of events: I reported it stolen to the campus police at the beginning of the week. On Monday morning a coworker came upon my bike sitting upside-down in the parking deck stairwell. She immediately called the campus police to come pick it up, fearing it was stolen from somewhere else on campus and hidden there. Fast forward to this morning when she saw an email I sent out about it being stolen. She let me know she had contacted the police, and I called them immediately. They were confused and said they had no record of anyone coming out to pick up anything. After looking through some more records they were like, "oh, ya, we've got it."

scratch that. still STOLEN

I certainly don't expect them to find a missing bike on a college campus after it's been stolen, but to be told exactly where to find it and not pick it up is beyond belief...

Wow, that sucks. Who wants to guess that another thief saw it in the stairwell and took it?

Might be a good idea to post pics of it where it was with contact information. It might be that someone was like "This doesn't belong here" and moved it, perhaps some campus maintenance.

So, what was their excuse for this?
Makes me wonder if they picked it up and one of them took it home.
I'm going to laugh if some guy named "CampusPD" posts it for sale on eBay next month.
