Sway bar links, struts, strut mounts and strut bearings.
Just got off the phone with the stealership about my 2003 rattling suspension. They wanted $1,100 for the above + labor.
I've had some major expenses recently. Can someone offer a helpful suggestion? I have not priced these items on my own yet (literally just got off the phone).
That said, they also want $855 for a secondary air injection pump... I am bitch slapped though because I am past due for an inspection and will not pass without it. 9/1/2010 5:43:31 PM |

That actually doesn't sound that bad, especially if it includes labor. Labor after that kind of suspension work will also include an alignment (often around $100 on it's own). May I ask what type of car? EDIT: So it doesn't include labor, then ja it's a bit high...
However, the noise almost certainly isn't coming from ALL of those components. It could be one strut bearing + one sway bar link for example.

Hey, at least it's a cool car...
Well, so if you just called them and told them your car made noise from the front end, they probably gave you an estimate for replacing most of the front suspension. I mean, that sounds like the absolute worst case scenario, it could be JUST the sway bar drop links forexample, I'd be surprised if that cost over $250 with labor, for both of them. 9/1/2010 6:32:40 PM |

I'm with Ahmet...The immediate problem can't be all of those parts. That doesn't mean, for example, that your struts aren't worn out in addition to whatever is causing the clunking.
Where did you take it? Swedish Imports always did honest & fair work for me. Their prices were much lower than David O'Neal Saab here in Raleigh. You might want to call them (unless that's where you took it in the first place, lol) and see what they quote you. If the price is right take it to them and ask them to only replace what is actually failing.
Or talk to ZXAppeal. 9/1/2010 8:49:16 PM |

Yeah, I can do everything except the alignment...and you can go to Gower's on S. Saunders and get a good price on that.
And I can definitely quote you VERY competitive pricing. 9/2/2010 1:47:42 PM |

Sounds like they can't directly fix the rattle, so they're going to replace the whole setup.
$850 for some crappy emissions pump? Thats fucked. 9/2/2010 3:49:23 PM |

^ agreed. I was behind on my inspection/registration so they knew I was fucked without it. Could not pass my inspection as it was. Regardless, passed now and all is well.
On to moving all of the other issues. This car has been amazing for me... I considered selling and upgrading it, but I can see myself in this car in another 5 years probably. 9/3/2010 1:36:08 PM |
