Am I the only one obsessed with this?

I would never kiss someone on the lips without brushing first.

I would never french someone unless we both brushed first.

Listerine four times a day

I always tilt my head to the right so that my breath isn't directed at the person's face due to the fact that I don't know what my breath smells like even if I brushed 20 minutes ago.

Stand back at least two feet from any person I'm talking to.

I would love to, but can't, stare into someone's eyes and talk to them face to face seductively.

If the other person has bad breathe and I catch a whiff of it, then I'm instantly turned off and that's the end of that night.

I get sore throats easily after kissing new people. I get immune to it after getting sick, but I hate getting sick in the first place. I have managed to avoid getting sore throats by "being weird" and requesting the other person brush their teeth in the heat of the moment :-/

I'm really big on oral hygiene, but not quite to the extent you are. And I'm geared more towards the "bad breath" aspect than overall oral hygiene. I brush my teeth about 4 or 5 times a day and ALWAYS have several mints in my pocket that eat throughout the day.

I can get over slight "morning breath" to have sex with the gf...but not if it's really bad. And yes...bad breath (as well as bad teeth in general) is a HUGE turn-off.

Have you ever considered that you are overly orally obsessed, thus potentially causing additional problems?

For instance, if your mouth is completely sterile and you kiss someone, of course the biggest, baddest baddie from their mouth will see the prime real estate and move on in. However, if the barn is full of harmless critters, there won't be any space for new baddies. Granted, I am just equating what I know of using too many anti-biotics on people creating superbugs, but I figure its probably similar.

Not too long ago, I had something strange going on with my tongue. Brushing and mouthwash cleared it up at night, but it would be back the next morning. WebMd seemed to indicate was thrush, and stated that mouthwash actually makes it worse because it harasses the natural balance of organisms in your mouth (like it or not, that's a fact of life). I stopped using the mouthwash and it appears to have cleared up.

I've managed a work around for this. I excuse myself to go listerine, and I spit all but a teenie tiny bit out. When she kisses me, I have enough in my mouth that it'll kill anything that touches it. I get the satisfaction knowing that I won't get sick, she get the satisfaction of a clean, refreshing, kissable mouth.

I'm not obsessed at all. I brush twice a day, floss at night, and use a fluoride rinse at night but that's it. It really sounds like you're legitimately obsessed. My desire for oral hygiene is a matter wanting to keep my teeth for as long as possible. I'm not particularly offended by bad breath or any of that stuff.

Actually, overly using Listerine or other antimicrobial mouth washes can make your breath smell *worse* for the reasons stated by the Captain. It can upset the natural bacteria in your mouth and make for problems. Many people who've had oral piercings that require using Listerine multiple times a day during the healing process can tell you all about this.

I brush three times daily, floss at night, and mouthwash before bed. That's about it for my personal oral hygeine. As for my sexual partners, i could care less in the heat of the moment and i very easily look past morning breath for morning sex. however, i do get turned off by bad teeth so if meet someone with a set it usually doesn't lead to any of the stuff i just typed.

Ha, you guys are crazy. I take of my own shit, sure, but I'm not gonna freak if I get a faint whiff of Starkist when I'm going in for a smooch.

Shit, a few weeks back we're necking after a moving and I find half a gummy bear behind her molars...I just laughed and kept it moving.

...and that's a dealbreaker, ladies. I had a bf that would only have sex right after I showered, and that gave me enough of a weird body complex. I couldn't imagine being told to brush every time I tried to make out.

^^ what if you have terrible bad breath, pretty much all day long? then yeah, i would expect you to brush to make out or kiss.

I actually much preferred kissing my lady friend after her mouth had reached "equilibrium" (and thus a neutral taste) than just after she had brushed/gargled. The chemically taste was less desirable to me... Not a deal breaker by any means.

But i think you are definitely going overboard. Maybe the reason that you get a sore throat so easily is that you have a weak immune system. You're probably doing more harm to yourself in the long run, and seeming like a weirdo on top of everything.

this. Also I agree on the weak immune system bit. Maybe if you got more sore throats for a little while you'd get a lot less in the long run.

OR

If you still have your tonsils/adenoids they might be chewed up and scarred and nasty from so many infections and thus become a persistant, unavoidable breeding ground. If that was the case I'd say get it looked at and take two weeks off and get them removed if thats why you get so many sore throats.

I can't really comment on the oral hygiene, but I do make sure my partner and I shower before we jump into the bed if we're dirty and I don't think that's weird. Usually we've accumulated a layer of dirt from biking around, and wrenching on our bikes, that I don't want the grossness transferred to our relatively new and clean bedsheets. It's easier to wash ourselves than for me to do even more laundry.

Yeah, I dated a girl like this and it was pretty annoying. I could use Listerine and 20 minutes later we'd be making out and she'd complain. I think she just had hypersensitive smell b/c no one else had ever commented on this. Also I think part of it is being insecure. I mean, I'm all for hygiene, but I'm sure as hell not going to request someone brush their teeth before every time we make out.

I see a lot of people saying I have a weak immune system ITT. I don't have a weak immune system, I just have a susceptible immune system to infections in my throat and urethra. Like... (too much information alert) I'd get an infection guaranteed if a girl gives me head without brushing/listerining first. It's a fact that I've experimented with in my teens and have learned to work around.

Besides these two things, everyone knows I have worked for 4 years straight without a day off.
I've only been sick twice.
Both of those times were sore throats that lasted 20 days and 5 days respectively.

I can eat after people, I can drink out of other people's drinks, and I can suck on every place of a girl's body without getting sick... it's just something in people's mouths that gets me sick.

I do know my mid-50's country-bumpkin stepmother is very OCD about brushing her teeth no less than 6 times a day since she was 30 or so, always once before/after meals and sometimes just randomly. Her dentist has started telling her that her gums are so worn down and easily scratched that she is starting to get sores near the base of some of her teeth and is becoming more prone to getting bacterial infections.
