Not good

Shatner was a terrible choice...his delivery sucks. and whoever this guy is that is playing the son is not good either

Will never watch again. Sorry for the real guy I guess...I'm sure he was hoping to make some extra $$ off his little shindig...not happening with the show.

what made twitter feed funny was that these were thoughts coming from a man who wasn't aware that he was funny. However Shatner is probably the most self-aware person on the planet. It's just not a formula for success.

Figured I'd see how terrible it was. They blew their wad on the first segment. Shit was downhill with speed after that.

I don't like Big Bang Theory anyway, so I'll never leave it on to watch this.

CBS has the worst comedies by far.

I was determined to like this. I enjoyed the source material and I think Shatner is funny as hell.

But, holy shit, this was horrible. I made it to the part where Nicole Sullivan showed up and couldn't stomach it any further. (So like 5 1/2 minutes in)

spot on assessment. This would have only been funny if the dad was grumpy but completely clueless. Shatner just came off as being grumpy for the sake of being a crotchety old man. Not funny in the slightest.

Quote :
"Premise: Laid-off adult son moves in with cranky old man (played by William Shatner) who makes outrageous observations about modern life.

While Shatner is jaw-droppingly unfunny, the actor who plays his son (Jonathan Sadowski) finds a way to bomb even harder. On top of that, the sitcom incorporates an overbearing laugh track that serves to do nothing but make the whole experience more excruciating. Over the summer, the Parents Television Council boycotted this show because of its network boundary-pushing language. I will boycott this show, and am asking you to do the same. This is the definition of an epic fail. -- Theoden Janes

One of the worst sitcoms I've ever seen. Everyone involved should be ashamed. The pitiful lines are either starch stiff or delivered with the verbal equivalent of jazz hands. William Shatner is doing a dinner theater version of himself, which is an insult to dinner theater. Then there were the gay jokes, yet a gay guy saved the day in the face of so much rudeness. Why do I get the feeling women and minorities will suffer the same fate? I'm faintly astonished this even made it on the air. If we -- and the cast -- are lucky, it won't be there much longer. -- Deirdre McGruder

This one has struggled to get out of the gate and seems to go thud in the first act. CBS recast and reshot the pilot, but your average Shatner commercial for Priceline.com is 10 times as funny. It's based on the popular Internet site about an old man who makes caustic and hilarious observations about the world in the bluntest possible terms. Problem is, to meet network standards, the combustible magic is lost in translation. Same show on pay cable would have the edge that attracted producers in the first place. A few choice words: It's total $#*! -- Mark Washburn

The opposite of what you said is true. He has 'made some extra $$ off his little shindig.'

I know he's made money selling the rights of his book to the network to produce the show...my point is his little dream is going to be very short lived.

Was it worse than Outsourced? I forced myself to watch Outsourced, not sure it's even supposed to be a comedy.

Agreed, Shatner was wrong for this role. When I picture the guy from the feed, I picture a hoarse, grizzed, cancer-ridden old fart. Shatner is not hoarse, grizzled, cancer-ridden, or fart-like, though he is pushing 80.

A valid point. Perhaps if HBO picked it up (and dropped Shatner), it might resemble what it going for. Although I feel it might look a little too much like Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Under that scenario, who would be the perfect "dad"?

I say either Brian Dennehy, Craig T. Nelson, or Frasier's dad from Frasier.

My vote would be Craig T. Nelson.

anyway, wanted to respond to this:

how i met your mother and 2 and a half men are great...but yeah everything else is pretty lame (including big bang theory)

I would rank the major networks comedy-wise this way:
1) Fox
2) NBC
3) CBS
4) ABC

How I met your mother is the only good one. 2.5 men is probably the worst.

I think Modern family alone moves ABC over CBS. I've only seen Cougartown and The Middle a couple of times but they are still better than most of the stuff on CBS.

cartoons maybe? the comedic factor to house maybe?

that's all I could think of

unless he is using the collective FX line up too... in which case, I could see that argument (Archer, League, IASIP, Louie, etc...)

^^^^ That's the first time I've ever heard of anyone who actually watches Two and a Half Men. I've never seen it, so I can't speak to how good/bad it is, but I've never been curious. Not even once.

I gave this show a shot because I liked the Twitter feed and hoped against my better judgment that it might work out. I watched the pilot, and promptly canceled it from my DVR list.

i refuse to watch Two and Half Men because i find it impossible to believe Charlie Sheen is a ladies man when he only wears those rediculous bowling shirts and socks and loafers. If that were true half this user base would be striking it rich.

It's the highest rated comedy on TV so clearly a good amount of people watch it

I refuse to watch it because the humor is sophomoric and extremely repetitive, and neither of the leads are likable or interesting.

Two and a Half Men is what it is. It's not outstanding, but it's decent enough (or at least, what they show in syndication is). It's an inoffensive way to kill 30 minutes, gets a few cheap laughs, and generally has attractive women floating around.

If nothing else, it's not the basic "quirky family with way too many kids" or "group of 20-something friends" type sitcoms.

running wilde is a shame because I like the casting and idea for it... it just didn't really do it for me

and Raising Hope I had dvr-ed, but the fiance watched it and deleted it before I could watch it... she said she chuckled at it but thought I wouldn't like it because it was more of a girly comedy

Have seen neither of the FOX comedies. Not interested. The CBS comedies are hit or miss. I really like BBT and HIMYM. Watch 2.5M but its not my favorite anymore. Kinda getting stale.

sitcoms are just horrible to me. super cheesy and written for the mental capacity of a 3 year old. i tried big bang theory bc so many people said it was good. that is the most god awful show i've seen in a long time.

i don't know what category modern family falls into but that show is hilarious to me.

i always thought of sitcoms as comedies filmed in front of an audience, or had laugh tracks. modern family doesn't have those things. i think it's a comedy. not a sitcom.

ha, it's a mockumentary! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitcom#2000_and_after

i also like the office and parks & rec.
