I believe the main factor in our loss today is plain complacency.

It's a common problem throughout college football that impacts respectable and elite football teams. Let me explain.

Teams nowadays schedule cans and patsies until they inevitably face solid competition, either through conference play or feature showdowns. In preparation, teams are handpicked and paid handsomely to show up and get raped in order to build up experience, momentum, and excitement for the program.

These teams are also scheduled because we should not need to show our full hand in order to beat them, while providing future champions and leaders a chance to get a feel for the game...which brings me to my point.

Thr players simply are not used to playing 60 minutes of football. We sit in practice hearing this "60 mins/4 qrtrs of football" crap from well meaning coaches. But the fact is that when we crush patsies we are quick to pull the starters, often by the end of the first half! How these kids gonna learn to play hard 60 minutes if for the first 3 or 4 games they'd played a total of 90?

It don't add up. It also comes back to bite otherwise good solid teams in the ass when the other team doesn't flinch, which VT did not. Ncsu folded big time. Once it got to the middle of the second we took a breath instead of mashing the gas. And tech kept coming...they were there to win a football game while our boys were thinking it was bout that time to take them helmets off.

I wanna see some fucking teams mash the gas for 4 real quarters I'm tired of good teams losing late because they are not used to playing 60 mins of meaningful football.

Give your starters a blow if they need it but for the love of god quit throwing in the white boy squad just because you are up a few touchdowns. It gonna be your downfall in that game where you are in a fight for that win

Thoughts? This has bothered me for awhile but it really manifested itself in our game, it's not just a thirst to see a team get embarrassed I feel the overall quality of football will increase and WE will win the games we damn sure should have won

Nah not mamba girl this has bothered me for awhile.

Surely it is a problem that will quickly be rectified but why have that hiccup in the first place? If teams played to win every minute if every game than this crap wouldn't happen

It's not a knock on our conditioning, motivation, or ability we just ain't used to plain meaningful minutes

I've been an athlete my whole life and I know what I see

If you think this is a trolls mentality than I'd honestly say you're a poor competitor and that's a shame

Not sayinyou should agree but to call this a troll is laughable

If I were gonna troll o wouldn't be typing this shit on a fucking iPod touch

Oooook whomever you are

Let the grown and sexy talk

The fact is we faltered badly in a very winnable game for us

It was almost like a panthers game where our scoring os done in the first qrtr and we just spend the redtof the game letting it slip away

It wasn't because of complacency.

And no not complacency in the normal sense but with respect to the flow of the game

Not like "ah we the shit now we just gotta show up"

That's just what we always call the third stringers

Sometimes we call em clean up I chose the former

Deal with it

i know it's a soon to be locked thread but:

Defense
horrible tackling
no defensive line penetration
significantly less blitzing in the second half

Offense
Russell Wilson did things that were anti-RW16 for 3 quarters. I've never seen him throw so many lofted passes.
offensive line couldn't block. RW could scramble out as usual but that doesn't help him throw the best passes.

And the causation for that was because we lacked focus once the game became a fight

How do u not make the connection and then call this a troll thread?

You just reiterated my point

tired players ---> bad tackles

Players not used to playing 3 quarters = tired players

At least unacclimated players

But ya that's what I am saying

The difference is in perception of causation I reckon

IMO I feel like it happens a lot in college balland is a big source of a lot of upsets

@aph, we got penetration from the DL and LBs, problem is often when we did Tyrod would usually just get away thanks to his stellar speed

biggest problems today were the o-line and the defense. RW had 3 picks, but only 1 of those was really bad (the one in the endzone, obviously). the first was a deep throw on 3rd and 17 and gave them the ball inside their own 20. not terrible. the last was after another defender completely knocked down our receiver. ill-advised throw probably, but that shoulda been a flag.

LBs did well. There was no pressure up front. In coverage, Tyrod had all day to throw or run.
