I just had a drive fail in a RAID array. It's a Seagate ST373207LW.
Any thoughts on a local place that might have a replacement?

If it's so important you have that exact model why don't you have spares?
And sorry, no - not listed in stock for tigerdirect or intrex.
(did you try the obvious - clean off the dust and stick it back in? Might buy you 24 hours to overnight one from somewhere with some stock.)

Yeah, I popped the drive back in and it passed the long smartctl test. But I'm not crazy about leaving a drive in this array that has at one point failed, for whatever reason. 10/15/2010 12:21:20 PM |

^well then overnight 2 or 3 of them from buy.com or someone with them on a shelf. 10/15/2010 12:22:14 PM |

Well, buy.com doesn't have them, and I haven't been able to find any other dealer (that I've ever heard of) that has them in stock. I guess I'll give one of these other companies a shot, and see what happens.
This will be the last time I'm caught without a spare! I just couldn't stomach spending the extra $400 originally. 10/15/2010 2:25:04 PM |

I couldn't find this particular drive at cdw, but I ended up ordering a pull from yobitech, whoever that is. It is a production server, but it's being replaced very soon, so it only has to last a few weeks.
They said it's already shipped, so hopefully it'll turn up tomorrow!

That's the plan! Gonna use esxi, or whatever it's called now.
FYI, I ran a ton of tests on this drive (seatools, adaptec, smartctl, etc), and nothing could find a problem. I went ahead and added it back to the array and it rebuilt successfully. I'll probably just leave it in there, but at least I have a spare in case it fails again. 10/15/2010 9:52:29 PM |
