So I'm thinking about selling my 2008 Acura TL in Jan/Feb time frame....Looking at either an 07 350Z or G35 Coupe.

I'm looking for a little more power obviously and something that's a little more fun to drive (and cheaper car payment since i bought the acura brand new )...

Anybody up here have a 350 of G35? Thoughts? Manual/Automatic? Any known transmission/engine problems/recalls? Is the Rev matching pretty solid on the 350Z/G35 autos?

I'm going to test drive, just wanted to get yall's opinion.

haha drove a manual through highschool and college for 8 yrs before buying the acura 2 years ago...(1985 CRX si and 95 Honda Accord)....

I know with the auto's u lose about 10-15hp, but i may be able to deal with that if the upshifts/downshifts with rev matching are smooth...

What in the world are you talking about? The automatic transmission in both of those vehicles is a torque converter slush box. There's no rev matching.

Nissan premiered their "rev matching" technology on the new for 2009 370Z manual transmission. You sound soft. Get an autobox G35 and call it a day

I have a manual 2004 350Z. I like it, though my year had an alignment issue that would chew through tires. Outside of that (and a tear in my soft-top), I've not had any problems.

Get a 07+ G or Z, the 05 - 06 had the rev up motor which has oil consumption issues. 03, 04 had transmission issues (6mt). The 07+ have the HR motor and its strong, updated trans, havent heard any problems with either of those. They are heavier, but have more power. Its a direct link transmission so the shifting will probably feel clunky to you coming from Honda manual transmissions. Dual mass flywheel, I have no problem rev matching. G or Z, your call, both are great. I have a G and a friend of mine has the Z. I like my interior and lack of road noise better than the Z. Being a hatch, the Z is louder.

I drove a brand new '07 G35 coupe, six speed manual back in 2007 at a dealership. It pulled pretty hard in 1st and 2nd. It's plenty of fun and power for what it is. I'd say go for it.

get the G35, nicer interior and not to mention a back seat. that's what's the most important in a daily driver. I love the TL's but not having a manual option is the downfall, though the new ones do have that option

The G35 coupe never came with the VQ35HR engine. In 2007 the G35 sedan (new body style) and the 350z both got the Vq35hr engine, which is the best 3.5 V6 hands down. The G35 coupe remained on the old platform and kept the VQ36DE 275hp, or rev-up motor with 298hp. Although the HR engine is rated at 306, its alot more powerful than the older motors and more reliable.

If you plan on getting an automatic get the G35 coupe. Stay away from the Revup motors (oil consumption). If you getting a 6spd, get the Z.

Why do you need a back seat for a daily driver?

The last gen TL definitely had a manual option, but I'd imagine it would be hard to find one secondhand.

Actually that explains a lot. I thought it was an HR engine when I was driving it, but the power seemed to fall off earlier than I expected.

^it just seems like he's single. And while throwing something in the backseat may be more convenient, that's what a trunk's for. Also it's safer to keep lose items in a trunk, lest they become projectiles in the event of an accident.

I put a carseat in my S2000...daughter loves riding with the top down. I'll do the same in the Z06...there's always the option of something more family oriented, like a 911 (if you need more than a 2-seater).

I have a big fucking gorilla of a truck for when I need to haul more than a sports car is up for. Extended cab, 4x4, 8' bed, V-10 engine, 5-speed manual, 3/4 ton heavy-duty model with 1-ton drivetrain and steering components. Beater trucks are cheap--I recommend all sports car owners consider this approach (although normally a 1/2 ton would easily be sufficient, and they're even cheaper).

...and who gives a shit about some rev-matching feature in an automatic? that only comes into play if you're making it execute forced downshifts, and that's pretty much pointless. If you want to drive like that, don't be a bitch and get the right tool for the job--a 6-speed manual. For that matter, buying a sports car with an automatic--even a fat one like a 350z--is completely absurd. Get a fucking Camry if that's what you want.

Backseats are important for a daily driver. It sucks not being able to take your kid/dog/friends/guitar/golf clubs, etc. around when you have a passenger in the front seat. If this was a secondary car I'd say to hell with the back seat but you never know when you'll need it and driving a roadster for the last 2 years really drove that point home with me. Then again, I'm not sure about the trunk on these cars, but mine was minuscule.

Just sayin' giving the choice between the two, the G35 has a nicer interior, nicer exterior (imo), nicer sound system, more options, and the back seat is just a plus that puts it over the line.

for me i'm fine with buying a sports car with little to no backseat as long as its able to carry a spare set of wheels. most hatched coupes satisfy this requirement (like my old VR4). when it comes to daily driving i dont ever find myself needing anywhere close to that but when making trips to/from track days that space is nice.

Yeah, 2 is pretty much the max in the S2000.


I'll probably buy a spare set of wheels for the 'Vette, but then just keep streetable rubber on the track set and just drive those wheels to the track.
