I'm running Win XP Prof. I have the brightness maxed out but it's always slightly dimmer when unplugged. Is there any way to fix it so it's the same brightness while unplugged. 10/18/2010 12:19:03 PM |

It's in the power saving settings somewhere in the control panel. You can find it yourself because I don't remember where exactly off the top of my head. You can set different settings as a function of state (i.e. plugged or unplugged). 10/18/2010 12:29:54 PM |

Yeah, that's what another guy told me but I have yet to locate the exact setting. 10/18/2010 12:41:16 PM |

in win7 its in power options. In XP you may need to look for settings in your gfx card specific application (nvidia nview/ati catalyst control center) 10/18/2010 12:48:11 PM |

should be able to double click on the battery in bottom right corner and then click more power options or something 10/18/2010 12:49:08 PM |

Same thing happens on my Dell Latitude. I assumed it was a hardware thing; I don't see any options in power settings in Windows 7 that deal with brightness, only turning the display off completely.
Further research indicates that the laptop has profiles external to Windows power settings. Just have to adjust the brightness up when you unplug it. 10/18/2010 1:35:22 PM |

I think this is the default for Centrino series machines. The setting is not in windows or power configs - it's in the bios settings. Hit F10 or whatever your hotkey is while it's starting and check the power options in there.
I think it's also running on a lower power state processor unplugged. 10/18/2010 2:33:27 PM |

Sweet. When I do my weekly restart I'll take a look. Is the location of the setting obvious? 10/18/2010 8:26:12 PM |

Hit the blue button; hunt down power management. It's fairly obvious on my T42P 10/18/2010 11:34:08 PM |
